Excellent album! Managed to get the new one before the UK release date from Sweden, all stems from hearing him on that mad advert with the couloured balls in San Fran. Anyone other followers?
 dougair 06 Jun 2006
In reply to outdoorbloke:Amazing! Also got interested from the Sony advert. He has a myspace webpage where you can stream tracks too, but the CD is top of my list at the moment, very chiiled stuff, excellent guitarist.
Kit-Kat-Kid 06 Jun 2006
Thought the album was great- wish i could play guitar like that!
 McKenna 06 Jun 2006
In reply to outdoorbloke:

I saw him in London last month. Fantastic. It's phenomenal what he can do on a guitar.

The sony bravia website has some great behind the scenes stuff from making that advert. Coolest advert I've ever seen.

Wish I could as well, manage a bit of David Gray and that's about it!
OP Denni 06 Jun 2006
In reply to Glyn Jones:
The veneer album. Been away and for some bizarre reason I though It wasn't released here yet, I take it that it is?
OP Denni 06 Jun 2006
In reply to McKenna:
Marko, saw the website and how they made it, definately the coolest ad I've seen. How was the concert? not really jealous! Although am going to see Kate Rusby (if you've heard of her) next Monday in Cambridge, also worth a listen to.
 Glyn Jones 06 Jun 2006
In reply to outdoorbloke: Yeah, I have a copy
Yorkspud 06 Jun 2006
In reply to outdoorbloke:

I have the album but I keep on finding myself wishinh the songs/tunes would develop more distinctive melodies rather than being stuck in ambient, acoustic jazz mode. I prefer him on Zero 7's The Garden.
OP Denni 06 Jun 2006
In reply to Yorkspud:
Just bought that from fleabay, love Zero 7, so am hoping it is good! Ever heard of Lemon Jelly? excellent album if you like 07
 Glyn Jones 06 Jun 2006
In reply to outdoorbloke: Scary coincidence - I've got Zero 7's simple things album and some Lemon Jelly. Mr Scruff too.
OP Denni 06 Jun 2006
In reply to Glyn Jones:
Scary! Never heard of Mr Scruff tho... worth a listen? or one of those that you buy because you heard a track?
Beleive it or not this album is a good couple of years old but never got recognition till recently... Partly down to Jo Wiley plugging it a lot on her Radio 1 slot...

If you like this, then also listen to the following...

- Anything by Nick Drake
- Anything by Roy Harper
- Anything by John Martin

Enjoy.. p.s. his picks are not overtly difficult and you can find a lot of tab online if you want to learn them...
OP Denni 06 Jun 2006
In reply to Lightweight_2005:
Saw John Martin a couple of times, I say twice! second time he was too pissed to do the gig! Solid Air very good. Nick Drake obvious choice, but not heard of Roy Harper, must check into that...

Definitely worth listening to. Have a listen on http://www.mrscruff.com/swf/environment.htm (crisps is worth a listen, yellow sleeved LP) He's along the same vein as Zero 7.
OP Denni 06 Jun 2006
In reply to Glyn Jones:
Cheers Glyn, I'll have to invest in that. Also started to relisten to some "oldies" Michelle Shocked, Tori Amos et
al, all still good

He's certianly not " a crappy little chappy"

Hats off to Harper!
In reply to Lightweight_2005: Never heard of Roy Harper? Phwooeee, timeless, been going since late 60's... Sung lyrics on Pink Floyds 'Welcome to the Machine'.. Excellent singer songwriter.. For starters, try listening to:

- Flat, Baroque and Beserk
- Valentine

More recently the title track from 'The Green man' is excellent...

In reply to outdoorbloke: off to Manchester Academy on Fri for Zero 7 / Jose Gonzalez / Sia / Fink - should be good - must say the Fink album Biscuits For Breakfast is my current favourite from any of the above, if a bit wrist slashing but I've had a lot of spinning time from the bunch combined and am really looking froward to fri

jealous of whoever said they were going to see Kate Rusby - fantastic voice and good material but I've not seen her live which by all accounts is what she's best at

cheers, Paul

Saw Zero 7 and Jose last Thursday at Leeds Metropoliten.
Absolutely amazing, they said we were the best crowd they had ever had (we all know it) so if they say it to you, they're lieing, because we were better :P

Guitar tab for that can be found in Total Guitarist (think that's what it's called anyway) only problem is i can't move my fingers fast enough... grrr
OP Denni 07 Jun 2006

Depressing when you just can't quite get it! Have been trying to play for years, can only manage a few David Gray, Nick Drake and "my own" tracks.

Paul, it's me!!! going to see Kate Rusby for the fourth time. She is fantastic live, good banter. Also got tickets to see Katrine Polwart, also excellent live.

2 words - and one of them is Keating. grr snarl

on the other hand - Roy Harper is excellent, and bizarrely so is his lad Nick - musically very similar, but less of a grumpy old fart than his Pa. (once saw RH do a 10 minute gig before he walked off grumbling about the PA)
OP Denni 07 Jun 2006
In reply to toadwork:
She has sold herself down the river a wee bit there to go commercial, can't really blame her tho.... but with Ronan Keating!
 Adders 07 Jun 2006
In reply to outdoorbloke: good album in a background music - to read/eat etc to kinda way. not something that will get you excited though.

only 2 cracking tracks on it that stand out - crosses and heartbeat(?)
saying this i do still recommend people listen to the album
gourd 07 Jun 2006
In reply to outdoorbloke: Track 2. About 1 min 48 secs. in, absolutely beautiful chord change!
OP Denni 07 Jun 2006
In reply to Adders:
Yeah, I see what you mean. I only really bought it because of the tv ad, liked it, played it to death and now some of the songs are wearing thin, apart from Heartbeats. Play Kate Rusby and Katrine Polwart to death though, never seem to get fed up with that!
Go on then Adders, give me a good recommendation for an album...

 Marc C 07 Jun 2006
In reply to Adders: IMO her best (for a beginner) is Ten (10) - 10 of her best tracks from her early and middle albums.

There are lots of albums on Amazon with Jose G and someone else. Anyone know which ones are good?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search/ref=nb_ss_m_h_/202-9357882-6221432?url=se...

And - maybe a stupid question - how come he's an "established star in Scandinavia" already, when Veneer is only his second album? Is he Scandinavian???
Is it because he's always collaborated with other artistes prior to Crosses.

Be gentle with me on the stoopid questions, pretty please.

I'm not so smug now having found out that the brilliant Camera Obscura are playing Manc tonight and are sold out - would rather have gone to that than Zero 7 and JG Silver lining is that they have another album coming out - and I'm sure Zero 7 will be a decent night out - last drink before the LAMM!!
cheers, Paul
