Last month's thread on this has been archived, but I wanted to add something further on James Hart Dyke. Yesterday during a quick jaunt to decadent London from the rugged lands of the Western Peak I was able to visit his current exhibition of Yosemite paintings. It's excellent. As soon as you enter you get hit by the Californian colour. I think he's captured the intensity of the light and the vibrant colours of the granite with a marvellously free style. It was my first visit to the John Mitchell Gallery, which is a lovely small exhibition space just off Bond Street. While there I chatted with Will Mitchell, who is an enthusiastic climber himself and has accompanied James on his mountain painting trips. I'd urge anyone who can get there to check it out before it closes on the 12th Dec. If you can't get there, here's a link to the online exhibition. Treat yourself to some sun in the midst of these stormy winter days:

Good work. I’d love to see his sketchbooks for this trip. I was also intrigued by this bit in his profile:

“James has also undertaken a series of projects including 'artist in residence' for The British Secret Intelligence Service.”

How did that work?

He'd have to kill us if he told us.

He may have had a few close brushes with death himself…
