Haha the XR2i got me too, we always thought the north was dead posh cos your fags were called Embassy 'Regal' - they were just plain old Embassy down our way.

Back to the mid 90s north London for me, too young for the first time around. Not bought any dance music in a long time, but definitely gonna buy this.

Excellent. The bit about the mains electricity reminds me of my mate who used to go along to help out at Rude FM occasionally, saying about how they'd bung folks a score in the top flats of some tower blocks in Edmonton to let them climb up out of their window with a couple of hundred feet to the kiddies playground below, and up onto their roof to sort the transmitters! Useful bloke to have around, I should have got him into rock climbing really!

> Who here was actually ravers back in the day?

Not a raver, as such.

I was big into the full moon party/ psychedelic-trance scene in Australia when I lived there in the late 90's/ early 00's though. Was at lots of the big European doofs too, like Boom and Voov I Dj'ed and promoted parties, illegally in state forests, beaches, and sometimes legitimately, in clubs. My life revolved around it.

... then I got a bit older, grew a beard, and went acoustic, hehe!

This brings back memories of driving around the Oxfordshire countryside, first to a party under the bypass that was stopped by the police before it got under way, then, having got wind of another about 30 miles away, we took off with a convoy of cars following us!! Not that we had any real idea of where we were going mind. We got there in the end.

Car broke down on the way home, and we returned on the back of an RAC truck, which meant we could all sleep.

Another night, some friends took over an old reposessed farmhouse near to where I live, the whole place, barns and everything was transformed and the party went on for 3 days.

Can anyone remember the Avon Free Festival, they had some epic parties back in the late 80's/early 90's? Right smack bang in the middle of the New Age era too.

Wow - I found this last night - some great footage in Eastern Bloc records in Manchester, I spent many an hour standing at that counter.

Laurent gave me a lift once from The Hacienda to Paris from where I hitched to the Verdon.

Great clip! (A lot of people I used to know in it, too.)

I spent a lot of time (and money) at the Eastern Bloc counter as well. The French TV missed the point slightly talking about how wild people are for house music over footage of the Hac on indy night. The footage of Kaos in Leeds was super, though. I went to a couple of the Kaos nights which Laurent did with Sasha at about that time - summer or autumn '90 to guess from the tunes (Cartouche, Xpansions, etc.) - maybe even the one in the film.

The back room at the Leeds gig is hilarious - the dark haired girl is a FB friend lol,

In reply to Enty: That's a class tune. I've been digging out my old vinyl and digitising it recently and listening to it all again. This one's getting played to death, great samples "this works almost instantly". Leftfield were fanastic in the early nineties.

How about Nush youtube.com/watch?v=n8eue3_mV6M&
