I was about to post the same link, plus https://www.lemonde.fr/disparitions/article/2024/11/04/quincy-jones-composi...

Was surprised that in the Guardian piece there was no mention of his earlier records with Miles Davis such as Birth of the Cool or Sketches of Spain or that he studied music with French composer Nadia Boulanger for a while.

Are you thinking of Gil Evans rather than Quincy? Not sure who the producers of those records were mind you.

ah yes, posted before my morning coffee

edit to add - think it was the mention of the Miles Davis/Quincy Jones disc 'live in Montreux' which includes many of the tunes from the Gil Evans/Miles Davis collaborations which muddled my pre-coffee brain

As always with sad events such as this, today is a good day to listen to the radio.

Thanks I hadn't heard of this - it's available on youtube which I will be watching later:

I had seen Miles earlier in the year at Nice. Twilight years but still magic, and enhanced by the 'atmosphere' in the gardens
