RITUAL - Jon Hopkins latest album. I can't work out if he's transcended the dance scene, making him irrelevant to plebs like me? Vanished up his own transmodulator? Or has released a work of unbridled genius and astonishing insight that never really kicks off as dance should but is compelling and I can't seem to switch it off...

It'll probably make more sense if you've listened to his previous album as intended!

I swerved that one for it's title alone.

I have Immunity on now, specifically Collider. Hopkins at his most established.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in favour of artists experimenting with new directions, as this will inform future works if nothing else, but if you'll excuse the parapraxis, I don't need to rave about them!

Yes, that album only really works...well, on psychedelics. Listened to Ritual this morning and it's a similar vibe, you wouldn't listen to any track in isolation, you put your headphones on and listen start to finish.

Reading up it (Rituals) started life as an art installation....which may help explain it!
