I'm flying out to Sweden in a few weeks and currently struggling to find some where to find gas canisters when I first get there. I'm flying into Gothenberg airport before heading up to Alingsas and further north. If anyone has any recommendations of where I would be able to find gas canisters it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

You'll get them in loads of petrol stations, many sports shops in towns (look for the Stadium chain) and really cheap from the massive Motor/DIY/hobbies chain Biltema e.g. http://www.biltema.se/sv/Fritid/Friluftsliv-och-camping/Gasol--och-stormkok... Find a town you are going through on this list http://www.biltema.se/sv/varuhus/ click on it and you see a map. They are often on the outring roads/motorways leaving towns, so if you are driving easy to find.

Thanks for the links, I'm going to be cycling so makes it a bit harder I may end up just looking in petrol stations then as most of the others seem to be next to motorways.

You shouldn't have much of a problem finding gas. As Toby said, many larger petrol stations have them. If you fly in to Säve (Gothenburg City Airport) you will be close to Backaplan, a shopping are where you'll find both Stadium and Biltema (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Biltema+G%C3%B6teborg/@57.7242791,11.95...
If you fly in to Landvetter and are driving straight to Alingsås, that would be out of your way, but there is a Team Sportia in central Alingsås that should have what you need:

As said above, there are loads here, however many or most are the screw in and puncture type. Very little screw thread epi gas used here. So it depends on your needs.

I hadn't realised that most canisters are the puncture type so time to find an adapter so I can use my stove.

They're not. I've been buying screw top canisters across Scandinavia for well over a decade. You might be able to get the puncture ones, but I don't know. I've only ever bought the standard screw fit ones.

I use liquid fuel on my msr etc.. only seen the puncture type in biltema, or the much larger screw bottles for the double ringed stoves. Curious where you've seen stuff for an epi gas or gas converted trangia fit?
The one you linked looks very much like the puncture fit I've seen in stores around me.

In reply to Andrew W: sports shops have them. I have never seen the puncture type ones , but I guess I've never looked in Biltema.

Basically a non-problem

Last time I bought gas canisters at Biltema/Sweden (2 years ago I think) they had both puncture and screw type.

Sounds like I've been looking in the wrong places. Will be good to have gas well as liquid fuels.

Nope, they are the screw on ones, its under that red plastic protector cap. I've bought them for years from Biltema in Finland, but I think I've bought them at least once in Sweden too, plus they're on the website! Blow torches and stuff like that use them too.

Thanks for the info everyone think I've now found somewhere to get gas. If anyone is interested I'll be posting up some photos as I travel through Sweden and Norway to here http://andrewwaterfield.blogspot.co.uk
