Hi. Can anyone recommend a basic campsite with shower near to the Gower Peninsula? Somewhere that allowed fires would be a bonus. Thanks.

Lots of options but most are catering more for caravans, so not the basic site you’re looking for.

The most convenient one for a lot of climbing is Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park, which has a simple field for tents. You can walk to a lot of the nearby crags, and if you’re lucky you can pitch up with a spectacular view of the beach.

The classic ‘surfer campsite on the beach’ is down at Hill End, just past Llangennith. It is appealingly basic, though realistically you need to drive to any climbing areas, unless you fancy a 45m stroll along the beach to Rhossili.

Not sure about campfires in either, sorry!

I stayed at three cliffs campsite last weekend. Fires are permitted. In fact each pitch comes with its own fire pit. I wouldn't describe it as basic however. Pretty plush by climber's standards in fact. Also it's incredibly popular and books up well in advance so worth checking their website for availability.

I love the Gower but I've yet to find a campsite that isn't ruinously expensive. You can walk along the beach to the Rhossili crags from Llangennith in about half an hour. I'm pretty sure no fires there.

I've always used Pitton Cross, no need to drive once there as plenty of climbing in walking distance. No idea about fires.

Note. It's a few hundred metres to the beach, a few km to a pub, which tends to act as a filter for many.

Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park really is not a basic campsite. You'd be looking at nearly £70 a night for a pitch for 2 people with a partial sea view in June!

Eastern Slade Farm? Gets booked up well in advance but I think it's around £12 a night for a 2 man tent. Portaloos and a tap.

Stayed at Bank Farm in Horton with my explorer scouts in April. They were great, gave us a field, showers and washing up area.

It's been a few years since I've camped in the Gower, but Oxwich Camping Park was my usual campsite in the Gower. Pretty basic and cheap, but no fires allowed.

Just a quick anti-recommendation for Hill End Camping https://maps.app.goo.gl/v4XA7vXhGWiUMr1R7! Heres my review from 5 years ago (I suppose it might have changed owners since then)

> I will be recommending this campsite to my friends, so that they too can experience the comical levels of hostility offered by the staff. It’s so bad it could actually be a tourist attraction in itself. A shame that such a beautiful and well situated campsite is ruined by this

Actually, I browsed a few recent reviews and it seems like nothing has changed. Heres one from 3 weeks ago:

> Let me start with the positives. It’s a very short list. The location is absolutely stunning, no doubt about that. Nature did all the hard work here because sadly the campsite management, or should I say Mafia, certainly didn’t. This campsite is wildly overpriced and run like a bizarre, over-the-top parody of a mafia organisation. The staff, a group of older individuals riding around in golf buggies, seem to have appointed themselves campsite overlords. They bark orders at guests in a manner that can only be described as Gestapo-esque. Unless you enjoy being monitored, questioned and patronised while trying to relax, I’d strongly suggest enjoying the beautiful surroundings from literally anywhere else nearby.

Its a rip-off, driving into it feels like entering some kind of military complex, and the staff are abusive, especially (sadly) if you are unfortunate enough to be English. I distinctly remember a large group of Welsh folk next to us getting drunk and making a racket into the wee hours, and having not a word said to them, while our group were berated for, amongst other things, closing a car boot too loudly after 9pm.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. Unfortunately all the recommended sites were fully booked. Ended up at a place called Kennexstone campsite which I highly recommend for anyone looking. Friendly, very clean toilet/shower block and 10 minute drive from Rhossili.

How pricey?

OP chockstone 10 Jul 2025
In reply to joem:

I paid £81 for three nights. That was for a medium pitch. A small pitch was slightly cheaper but not sure by how much.

Kennexstone appeared to be the cheapest of the campsites I looked into on the Gower.

I’ve stayed at Pitton Cross a few times. It’s a nice place, good showers, lovely views. They don’t allow open fires, but you could use a fire basket last I knew.

After much searching I've been in contact with this place

£10 pp/pn for climbers, which these days counts as a steal. Anyone stayed here?

In reply to OneBeardedWalker:

Yes, but not for a few years. You used to need coins for hot water & showers - not sure if that's still the case. It was always a decent site. Planning to stay there in a couple of months.

In reply to whenry:

Cheers; that's a good tip.

In reply to OneBeardedWalker:

Stayed at https://richardwilliam2000.wixsite.com/oxwichcamping 25 this weekend.

It was pretty rammed with tents crammed in next to each other over the field. There are no pitches so you're just directed where to park which in our case was about a foot away from the next tent. Having said, it did the job. Staff/owners were friendly, showers were good - bring 20ps or get them at reception and bring your own toilet roll - none provided.

£10 p/p/p/n
