Anyone know of anywhere decent to stay that's convenient for the Costa Dorada Rockfax guide area? We need a place for 5 blokes, so not all double beds! Reasonable bar/restaurant in walking distance, a fridge for the beer, and not too far from the crags would be nice.
We're after an apartment/cottage type place.
Cheers

When I went we stayed at refuges - La Mussara is good. If your'e looking for somethign classier, appartments are mostly down in Reus. About 20 mins from the TV crags and within an hour of pretty much anywhere in region, plus ammenities will be significantly better than in the refuges! Maybe some apartments in villaplana. Either is convenient. Check rockfax.com for accomodation under area info

In reply to Chris Harris:

The bungalows at Villanove de Prades are a great form of accommodation. They have a number of sizes, for 2/4/6 people etc. I have used them on 2 trips to this region. They even have a pool.

Check out their site at: http://www.serradeprades.com

The Rockfax guide covers all the climbing in this area, with a crag just behind the park.

Al

In reply to Chris Harris: The chalets at VNDP are really good. We've had 2 climbing trips there. The family who run the place are lovely and the mother does home cooked dinners and sausage butties for breakfast. She served us up suckling pig (which we are still salivating over) on our last night as a treat. The son of the owners is a climber so the place is very climber friendly. The local wines have suddenly become very trendy in the UK and are less than half the price bought locally if you are in to that sort of thing. our favourites were La Mussara, Siurana and Montsant, but the crags at VNDP are pretty good too

have fun, Paul

Thanks for the info.
The chalets at VNDP look promising. Any bars/restaurants in walking distance? Gettting my mates to cook is a non starter and I'll be stuffed if I'm doing it!

In reply to Chris Harris:
The bar/restaurant is a bit basic but unfortunately there's not much else there. Also the shop there is better than anything else in the local villages. On the plus side you can get bottles of cava for about 4 euros.

In reply to Chris Harris: The mussara refuge does reasonable and cheap food and is probs in a slightly better location than villanova.

good atmosphere there as well, although the bunks get smelly apparently. we opted to camp instead.

In reply to Al Ferguson:
the site at vndp always gets recommended, must be just me, but I have stayed there twice and found most of the bar/ restuarant staff to be rude, the food very hit and miss and well just generally dissapointing really. went with a group last year and they slated the place, mainly because of rudeness of staff in bar - perhaps they just didn't like us - anyway, cracking area, but would like to find somewhere else to stay next time - surely the suckling pig episode is a fantasy or at a different venue

In reply to gwood:Intentaste hablar Castellano? Did they think you were being rude? May have changed ownership or staff? The suckling pig/lechona was better than I've had in many restaurants in Spain. Maybe she just fancied us

Paul
