Just checked the BMC guide for Gouther re.bird restrictions-info says 'unsigned-no restriction unlesss birds nest'. Anyone know if nesting is occuring. Hoping to get there on Monday. Cheers

I'll take that as a no then.

In reply to Ann S: Any peregrines will be nesting on the tall north side of the crag, which is somewhere you don't want to go anywhere near. Fang Buttress, Truss buttress should be fine.

Thanks for that H- we'll beat a hasty retreat if we get squawked at.
In reply to Ann S:

I thought the agreement was to avoid climbing there between 1st March and 30th June?

In reply to bentley's biceps:

The latest BMC summit mag has bird info and for Gouther I quote- "(NE buttress only)unsigned-no restriction unless birds nesting" that's why I was asking if anyone has local info. Is there an informal agreement to stay away that I have missed? If the general consensus is to stay away till end June then I will happily do that.

In reply to Ann S: The rule has always been stay away from the North East Buttress if Peregrines are nesting.

Even if they are nesting, it will not effect any climbs you will be want to be doing on Truss Buttress or Fang Buttress.

Mr Biceps is making this complicated...
In reply to bentley's biceps: Peregines used to nest on North-East Buttress but haven't for a few years now - hence there is no restriction. However they may return so climbers should be aware of this possibility. If they do return and nest there will be a restriction but what it covers will depend on where the nest is.

In reply to Stephen Reid:

Thanks all -will keep a look out for peregrine shaped flying objects and report accordingly.
In reply to Ann S:

Sorry, just quoting 2 of my guides. They are obviously out of date now.

Does this also mean there are no restrictions on the boulders? I was half thinking about a visit there.

In reply to Ann S:

Great day on Gouther and no sign of peregrines today. First day of proper warm rock this year.
