I have been to Turkey before and stayed up at Geyikbayiri (Josito) but this time we are going to base ourselves at Olympos so its handy for the kids on the beach etc. Does anyone have any recommendations on places to stay in/around the Olympos area? (Especially child friendly)

Cheers,
Joint

Hi,
We went to Olympos a couple of years ago and stayed at Saban Treehouse which we were very pleased with.

All the accommodation seemed pretty similar though. The main difference is in location. All the accommodation is off one road up the base of a valley heading directly away from the beach - so some of it is a bit of a walk from the beach and the climbing. The place advertised in the climbing guide (can't remember the name) is actually about the furthest from the beach and climbing.

If you want hotels there is another village a mile up the beach that probably has some and then of course there are big tourist resorts further along the coast.

A mate stayed here http://www.kadirstreehouses.com/ and said it was ok - but make sure you get a room as far as possible from the bar: apparently the disco goes on til all hours

I have read some spectacularly BAD reviews of Kadirs and it doesnt sound family friendly. I wonder whether any of the 'tree houses' will be? or are they just backpacker/climber hang outs?
Cheers for suggestions/links so far.

I spend quite a bit time in Olimpos and Cirali which is absolutely a great place.

Just do not go in high summer season. Spring and autum is the best time.

Bayram's is another good one in Olimpos. Kadir's Tree houses is usually more crowded and condensed than the others.

There will be a lot of backpackers but everybody is quite chilled and the whole valley is very peaceful.

Cirali, which is next to Olimpos sharing same beach has accommodation and restaurants and probably more family friendly as it is closer to beach and have more restaurants. If you are going in winter and early spring Cirali is also warmer in the evenings by not having the draft coming from the mountains.

Turkish people are quite family oriented and very child friendly. You will have have a great time in Olimpos or Cirali.

Kadir's is also the place that's furthest from the beach and the climbing. There is a little crag right next to it but it's not very nice - I think it's only bolted because Kadir's do taster sessions and that kind of thing.

I don't really mean to slag off Kadir's. They clearly put a lot into the local climbing community and it's probably a great place to meet other climbers.

From what we saw most of the places calling themselves "Treehouses" have a few actual treehouses (ie not much in the way of walls) but then mainly have little bungalows - like a hotel room but free-standing. So we had a little pine bungalow with heating and en-suite toilet / shower room. They're not spacious but we just hung out in the bar area.

Joint - you can find links to some places to stay on the Climbapedia website as well as basic info on the nearby crags. http://www.climbapedia.com

If you go to the map and choose Turkey from the LH countries menu. Mouse over the red cross then click on the link to Antalya. Once the map has zoomed in you can drag it about and zoom in to find the info for the Olympos region.

Hopefully it should be self explanatory but feel free to get back to me if you have any questions.

Ollie
