I know people sometimes post on the forum to ask for recommendations for places to stay, so I thought I'd share one - the Queen's Head Inn at Troutbeck. Good food, amazing service, within easy reach of lots of the south lakes... they even have four poster beds (easily pleased, me...)

Anyway - just thought I'd share.

Price guide - from £75 - £190 (including breakfast)!

Not cheap those four poster beds....

Stayed there a number of times; the last time admittedly a few years ago (4 of us stayed) I vowed never to return. Rooms were dirty (including baths obviously not cleaned). They didn't want to know when we complained.

I have been back to eat but I won't stay there again whilst they are under the same management.

Sorry to sound so negative but it's the only place I've stayed in the Lakes which I now veto.

Wow!

Don't know when the management changed but I *think* (might be wrong!) it was recently. We found it to be really clean - the only thing that was even slightly frustrating was that the shower wasn't really powerful.

In reply to JonC: Don't recommend it for a passing pint either - last time I was there the beer was off.

In reply to Removed User: Been in the Queens Head at Troutbeck many times. Always found it a welcoming & friendly pub with good beer and food. A little pricey, but everywhere around here is.
The mortal Man at Troutbeck is also worth a visit.

Ditto to that, although not stayed there for a few years.
