Does such a place exist? Just back from a weekend in Oban where I tried really hard to find a camp site next to a pub, but in vain. Can anyone suggest a better venue next time?

Red Squirrel nr. Clachaig Inn in Glencoe.

Boat House, Gigha

Sligachan Hotel

Ullappol Campsite

Applecross Inn is close to a site

Having just been in a pub, I'm struggling to think of others but there must be loads...

Also...

Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe has informal camping next door and so does Hotel at Inveroran (or Inveraran) behind Bridge of Orchy at Victoria Bridge.

Drovers Inn on Loch Lomonside is close to a site too.

Graeme.

Hmmm hotel bars just aren't that appealing. I'm looking for a pub pub, though maybe the drovers inn could be ok...

The Applecross Inn is one of the finest pubs in Scotland, and is just a couple of minutes walk down from the (pretty decent) camp site.

Fidden Farm camp site on the Ross of Mull is a pleasant 2km walk from the Keel Row in Fionnphort - a great camp site, and a decent pub.

The Glen Nevis camp site is about 1km walk from the Ben Nevis Inn, a good pub.

Shiel Bridge camp site is near the Kintail Lodge Hotel.

The Long Beach camp site near Inverie in Knoydart is about 1km from the Old Forge, which has a great reputation (though we found the food disappointing).

Glenrosa camp site on Arran (which is not a good site), is about 1km from the Ormidale Hotel, which isn't a bad bar and has decent grub.

It's much harder to find a good pub near a camp site in Scotland than it is in the Lake District. Of the ones I've just listed, the Applecross Inn and Applecross camp site is probably the only really good combination.

In reply to Minka: Is the (ultrabasic) campsite by Torridon village still open? If so it's a spit from the Torridon Inn which has very good beer and food. Can't fault that for a location either, Liathach and Beinn Alligin on your doorstep

Ah, thinking about it, the Gigha Boathouse is more of a restaurant than a pub so might not be open as late as desired but stunning spot.

Kinshouse is a hotel but more known as a pub I'd say. Haven't been for so long I can't really say good or bad.

Sheildaig has a much better campsite than Torridon and its still close to the mountains. Its above Sheildaig village on a patch of grass next to the road but with toilets by the shore and gets a good breeze which keeps the midges away! The village pub does good food and has good beer too.

Good campsite at Scourie overlooking the sea, only one minute from Scourie Hotel; Gairloch has a campsite adjacent to a pub and I have heard that there is now camping at the Am Fuaran pub near Reiff.

You're getting your rivers confused! The hotel near Victoria Bridge is the Inveroran Hotel: http://www.inveroran.com/ whereas The Drovers Inn: http://www.thedroversinn.co.uk/ is at Inverarnan. Must be a couple of miles from the Drovers to the camp site at Ardlui, though (and wild camping might not be possible there for much longer, given the threatened clampdown on the practice around Loch Lomond).

Shieldaig is a good site, but best to bring a mallet to get your pegs into the hardcore!

There's a campsite at Beinglas Farm which is handy for the Inverarnan.

In reply to Minka: Thurso has campsite on the beach in the middle of town.

Lochcarron campsite isn't far from the pub. I think you can also camp at the Strathcarron.

Reraig in just behind the Balmacara Hotel.

Arisaig has campsites near the pub. Likewise you can camp near the Glenuig Inn.

I think the campsite at Scourie is shite. One of these places that's full of signs telling you what you can and cannot do. It shiteness is only surpassed by the pub which is truly dreadful. Years ago I was almost literally told to piss off by the ignorant landlord when I politely asked if I could bring my infant son in. Years later I returned on a Saturday evening in february. There were 3 other people in the bar including the barman who also seemed to have a second job as the village idiot. The crowd was riveted to the television which was showing the national lottery which was unexcitingly followed by casulaty. We left after one pint preferring to sit in our car in passing place on one of the B roads drinking Stella and getting rubbered. I hope the place burns down.

In reply to the OP.

Kinlochleven has two campsites in the village, one of them is actually at the back of the MacDonald hotel. However the only good thing I can say about the pubs is that you can buy very good malt whisky at bargain prices.

Another thought. You used to be able to camp on the fringe of the gold course at Brodick which was only a few minutes from Arran's bestest boozeramas. If want to go for this option, make sure you camp above the high tide line.

No one's mentioned the campsite at Durness. Right next door to a pub. Not the greatest of pubs I'll give you but a pub none the less.

Are you me? Agree totally re the Scourie site, although the showers were welcome after 3 nights at Achnahaird (near Reiff). Durness is a magical site, though as I had my two young-uns in tow the pub wasn't an option.

Re The Drovers, as said Beinglas Farm campsite is very close by. You can head straight up into the hills from the campsite too (Beinn Chabhair nearest Munro).

Second the Gairloch mention above. Just got back from a weekend there with a few pleasant nights spent in the Millcroft (I think that's its name).

Also popped into the Melvaig Inn up the road which is a quirky place with free old jukebox and an incredibly friendly landlord, plus the Old Inn down by the harbour is good for seafood.
