Zillertal, Austria, is the train a good idea?

Hey guys,

Planning on heading over to Zillertal, but never been before.
Had a look at flights, and they're looking in the range of about 200 return at the moment. Wanted to research getting the train there, but wasn't really sure where to start. I get that you can get a train to Paris, then from there to Zurich, then to Innsbruck (or thereabouts).

Has anyone tried this before, and is it worth the hassle, and is it even cheaper in the first place?
Cheers for any advice anyone can drop off. Back to researching it all now

Hi,

I did the train from Innsbruck to Zell am Ziller in the Zillertal valley in March no problems.

There is a free link bus from Innsbruck airport to the station. You should be able to buy a ticket at the station all the way through to Zillertal it terminates at Mayrhofen if I remember correctly. You then get the train from Innsbruck to Jenbach which takes about 25 mins. Then at the Jenbach station you just hop onto the Jenbach Zillertalbahn train which is a really cool little red mountain railway train that goes up the valley stopping at all the villages on the way. I think the whole thing cost less than 20€.

Hope that helps,
Sam

You get the free link bus just outside Innsbruck Airport across the road.
Don't get a taxi from the airport they will sting you.

I'm not sure if you're looking for advice on the Britain to Innsbruck leg of your journey, but "the man in seat 69" is the website.

Can be done by train from UK, but probably more than £200. Worth it only if you have time and an aversion to flying or problems with baggage.

I have usually flown to Munich and then caught the train from there. About 2hrs and not too costly. Innsbruck isa little closer, but fewer flights to choose from.

If flexible on dates, Squeezyjet will fly you there and back for £60 (plus extra for luggage etc, of course).
