Hi,
Does anyone know the best place to get a hold of a down suit? I'm off to Pakistan in the summer to climb Gasherbrum II (8000m) and need a down suit for the higher camps and summit day. Now if I was climbing in nepal I would get one in Kathmandu on the way through, but Islamabad's not quite the same... and London does not seem ot be the best place for mountain gear!!
Any ideas?

In reply to Tia: I would check out the Chamonix-Mont Blanc mountain stores website. They have a great selection of high altitude mountain gear and ship to the UK: http://www.cham3s.com/uk/default.asp

I have had bad experiences with Peglers before.....

Otherwise, if you know anyone in the US that could send you something you ordered from a US website then check Moosejaw or Mountain Gear

I too am looking for a down suit and do a search on ebay once a week. I posted something on summitpost (search "my michelin man fantasy") and got some good replies but that site seems temporarily down at the moment. It seems like in the US the only thing commercially available is the MH suit. I do have a feathered friends sleeping bag and was going to get their suit but have been told that Rab in the UK make the best suits, so now I am more confused that ever.

Good luck.

Ill be on g2 then aswell. I got my gear from the parka shop, link above.
I use a PhD omega jacket and sir Joseph down bibs. With layers underneath I know its good for me. You heading with FTA under Ryan waters? Ill be arrivin in Islamabad on the 1st.
The guy in the parks shop, lives about 30 from me and you can get the gear custom sized as standard. 3 can get info on what's quickly available from the manufacturers for anyone here who wants to know. It'd also be good for anyone going for g1 and/or g2 to email each other and get chatting about the trek in etc.

Asalam aleikum, people. I'm almost certainly not using my down suit (Marmot 8000m) on G1. Too much to carry and won't need it until C3, I reckon. So down jacket and Primaloft pants.

Tia, check that SP thread at: http://www.summitpost.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=27389

I know Mountain Designs here in Australia have down suits in stock (at least as of a month or so ago) and they're good quality. If you get really desperate FT or whoever you're going with could pick one up for you. They're about 650 pounds or US$1350. I saw a North Face suit at Paragon Sports in NYC in February for US$800. Most North Face shops can get you in a suit, not sure what $$. I have had both good and bad service from Peglers. Snellsports in Chamonix often have one or two Eider suits in stock, which are very nice.

In reply to Tia: I used Peter Hutchisons designs. Very good. I used it instead of a sleeping bag at Camp 3 on Broad Peak. I used the lightweght downsuit

I thought of doing this but my Marmot suit is so huge it's still a PITA to actually climb in. What kind of temps did you get at C3 on BP ? A friend has been saying -25C. I know how hot it gets in the Karakoram in the day, but I've not been above 6000m there, and not at night.
