Has anyone had any experience of climbing in this area of Africa, here is a link to one area.

youtube.com/watch?v=whCRq0-kKNA&

Would be great if anyone has any info regarding existing or potential climbs in the area, what the rock is like, whether there is any written guides or websites related to it, etc

Thanks

Dan

In reply to Dan Goodwin:
Dan. I was shown some pictures of huge granite domes in Nigeria recently. Some local guy was wanting to know if it was worth starting a climbing school.
The pictures showed a course grained granite that had little in the way of natural features. From the pictures I reckon the climbing would be scary runout steep slab climbing. Not wanting to say it but bolts would almost be a must from what I saw.
HOWEVER there were a large number of boulders in the area as well, I didn't see pictures of these but from the general shots of the village etc you ould see large boulders all over the place.
Not much solid info Dan sorry

In reply to Dan Goodwin: I have had experience working in Nigeria and to be honest if you can get your equipment through customs without it being stolen i will be amazed. There isnt even a duty free shop in the airport due to corruption and fraud if that gives you a clue.....

In reply to Dan Goodwin: I keep getting emails saying that if I send £5000 to this guy in Nigeria he will show me the best crag in the World (just outside Lagos) which I can have for myself and my mates..all bolted up and ready for me if i want to send another £1000 to a second account.

I think he said he would provide some little blue pills for my post-climbing recovery sessions too.

In reply to Kenton Cool - Dream Guides: Was that on the Jos plateau Kenton? There is a civil war going on there which erupts every now and then between the Fulani and some other guys who dont like them much. I used to work for an organisation that provided funds for a chimpanzee project in Gashaka Gumti near the Cameroon border. Fabulous place. I went in 2004 and the park (6 600 sq kms) had a grand total of 12 visitors for the year. The place is not set up for tourism. Gashaka had some lovely rock (however as the main funder I was under strict instructions NOT to climb!) and no-one ever climbs there. If you can get over the corruption in the country (I tavelled from Gashaka up to Kano by car and every 20kms had to pay a bribe, they call it 'dash', working for an international NGO it was interesting getting that past the accountants) then Nigeria could be a good place to explore. Oh and apart from the corruption it is also made interesting by the fundamentalist Christians in the South and fundamentalist Muslims in the North.

In reply to Dan Goodwin: There was a magazine article about climbing in Nigeria a few years back I'm pretty certain. I think Dave Pickford was one of the bunch of Brits who went out there. I don't know his contact details but he works for Planet Fear, so maybe you could get in contact with him that way and ask?

All good info thanks !

Kenton that sounds like the area that we are investigating, there is a team from here possibly heading there in near future 10 in total to help shoot a film promoting tourism in the area, climbing being the topic it would seem !

Aye

I think I know the guy. His sister is a Princess and is dying from terminal cancer and has the deeds to the crag? She is trying to transfer them into the name of a British climber to hold on trust for the BMC? All they need are your bank account details to enable the transaction to go through? It is all very urgent as they want the transaction completed before she goes to join the Lord in Heaven and can pass over peacefully knowing that she has helped total strangers to achieve their dream. Such moving generosity brings tears to my eyes.
