October is a good month for hiking in Crete. Typically sunny, 20 C daytime temperatures, 5 days rain in the month.
Great hiking along the coast and in the mountains. This guide, currently being revised, describes much of it.

There are also magnificent, remote, multi-day scrambles along the ridges and in the gorges of the White Mountains. Not in any guidebook.
The Kallergi hut, above the gorge of Samaria, is the only "European style" mountain hut in the White mountains.
Several locked huts owned by local mountaineering clubs, and shepherds huts that will probably be in use until mid October.
What kind of walking did you want to do?
