In reply to el diablo: If you Google climbing in Crete, you will get the local cimbing club website.

In reply to el diablo:

October is a good month for hiking in Crete. Typically sunny, 20 C daytime temperatures, 5 days rain in the month.

Great hiking along the coast and in the mountains. This guide, currently being revised, describes much of it.

There are also magnificent, remote, multi-day scrambles along the ridges and in the gorges of the White Mountains. Not in any guidebook.

The Kallergi hut, above the gorge of Samaria, is the only "European style" mountain hut in the White mountains.

Several locked huts owned by local mountaineering clubs, and shepherds huts that will probably be in use until mid October.

What kind of walking did you want to do?

In reply to Mudflap: Don't know really, have spent 10(?) summers in Corsica and thought of somewhere else for a bit of a heat in October skool hols. Enjoy the multi-day walks and wondered if this was possible in Crete. In the Polish Tatras hut to hut last year and kinda have a hankering after going back. Other half seems keen on somewhere new and a bit warmer. Happy to bivvy/camp tho if warm enough in Crete.
cheers
