I need to get some leather belay gloves. Looks like there a few options from Petzl, Beal, Metolius etc. Anybody got any good or bad experiences of them or which ones are the best?

In reply to Brett ffitch: Petzl ones here, they do the job just fine.

In reply to Brett ffitch: I`ve got the Petzl ones, very pleased with them though I do tend to use them for tackling brambles and stinging nettles in Mendip quarrys more than belaying.

I use the petzl ones and they are great. Really comfortable and so far hard wearing (about 1 year medium use), but your hands do tend to heat up which might not be a problem with fingerless gloves

Black diamond fingerless.

Tough with a clip hole that can't rip off.

Got em as a gift. Chopped down $2 work gloves did just as well for years.

In reply to Brett ffitch: Try military nomex pilots gloves. I've used them for belaying a few times and they really do work.

In reply to Brett ffitch: There not really for belaying. Going to be using them for short roping and rigging ropes for tyroleans, hoists etc.

In reply to Brett ffitch: Seems most people use the Petzl one's.

Anyone tried any of the others?

In reply to Brett ffitch: I find the climbing technology ones to be much more comfortable and less sweaty in hot weather than the petzl model but the fabric which runs along the inside of the fingers can twist round and be exposed to damage so they are not as durable as the all leather petzls. I'm intending to have a pair of both and use the petzls unless it's hot or I'm expecting to be in them for a long time and working hard.

In reply to Brett ffitch: Ive have two pair of Petzl gloves that i use for work. One in black and one in Tan.

My only issue i have with them is that they stain your hands when they become wet. The tan are the worst culprits. A few hot hand washes does solve the problem though.
