Hi, I have recently bought a 60m Beal 'Top Gun' dry climbing rope and it's filthy after climbing in Northumberland last week!
What is the best way to clean it, a friend suggested putting it in a pillow case and running iut thru the washer at 30 degrees (after running a 90 degree cycle with nothing in the machine to lcean the machine) says i can use soap flakes or nothing at all, i.e just run it thru the machine. Any suggestions, and what is the best way to wring it out/dry it?

In reply to dannylou: I wouldn't put mine in a machine. Hand wash in some proper rope cleaner. You can get a special rope brush as well if you feel the need.

To dry just hang it to drip dry.

Machine wash instructions. Lot quicker/easier/better results. Your rope's Nylon - same as some of your clothes.

This link came up in German for me? It basically says you can wash in the bath or machine. Use mild synthetic detergent, wool cycle and NO spin. Dry by laying in a cool dry place, not hung up

Machine washing is fine 99% of the time. For a rope that is filthy with ground in dirt (for example my abseil rope that was left on a busy crag on a bank holiday weekend and used 100's of times) then use a Beal rope brush to give it a good scrub, run it up and down the rope four or five times to get even the dirtiest rope clean.

You may need to tweak the language settings; but yes, pretty much everything you said. I once had an old machine set outside for just this purpose for my caving ropes.

I've always just daisy chained my ropes and put them straight in the machine on rinse cycle. After a spin dry they don't tak much additional drying, just hang them up somewhere.

Why the hell do these threads come up? Its a Beal rope so wash it the way Beal tell you to! 20 seconds on google gave me the Beal website and their washing instructions....
