Hi all,
got a pair of Flies this summer for my 1st winter season, just wondering if i've fitted the leash right!?
The small loop just above the wrist loop, where does this go? At the moment it has the shaft running through it. Like this....

Is this right, does it really matter?
Cheers.
(P.S. i don't really want to go leashless on my 1st routes... Just in case)

In reply to trail_fairy: hello. not quite right im afraid. the loop that you have around the shaft should be loose. its purpose is to be hooked onto the adze or anywhere so you can pull you wrist and loosen the strap for when you want to feel your hand. Hope that makes sence.
Tom.

Needle Sports seem to have the clearest instructions on the chokehold leash.... ( just scroll down to it)

Thanks guys - just received my new flys and was wondering about the leashes too.

In reply to trail_fairy: Tried it both ways and decided it was easier with the small loop not around the shaft. Also worth setting the length wearing your climbing gloves.

I use DMM Fly's and dislike the leashes immensly. In fact my friend has just made me some from an old sling instead (he is good with a needle & thread but not gay apparently!!)

I don't think you have. I've been climbing on Fly's for quite a while and the little loop on the wrist leash is supposed to help you remove it from your wrist instead of going around the shaft.

I like the fly alot, but I'll admit the leash can be a bit of a pain sometimes.

Not the only one to have got it wrong ! that’s if there is right ‘n wrongs
I got second hand fly’s + leaches could not work out the purpose of the plastic buckles??
Sowing machine came out buckles redundant.
Lot of stress on the word theory from Needle sport

those leashes are rubbish. The Grivel - Easy G Leash or Charlet Moser - Freelock Leash are much better.

Just to clarify,
The loop was designed to allow you to hook it over the hammer or adze and uncinch the leash when the tool is securely placed. It was never intended to be put over the shaft, but as has been mentioned some people have used it this way.
This design was first brought out by a company called Pika, and both the DMM chokehold, and the BD Lockdown leash derive from that original design.
Like alot of things it can take a little getting used to.
The plastic buckle is there to prevent the leash from cinching down too far and cutting off circulation to your hand !
Hope this helps.
