Looking for a new pair of half ropes and am interested in the cut resistance of the Starling Protect 8.2.

A couple of people report they tangle a lot, and the aramid furs up fast but then stops furring up. Would be interested if the tangling isn't too bad!

I have the Swift Protect 8.9 which is a nice rope, quite stiff and does tangle a bit and seems to have a rough texture so can be high friction. I haven't used it much but so far it's been fairly durable and the cut resistance is inspiring when used as a single.

I’ve used them loads, lots of UK rock climbing, Dolomites, Alps, Yosemite. They’re nice ropes, but they do fluff and are quite tangly. They do feel quite reassuring though, especially when climbing as a 3. I’ll probably buy another pair.

Cheers, how bad is the tangling? Minor annoyance or gordian knot on every belay?!

Minor annoyance - like I said I’ll buy another pair.

the fluff is particularly annoying on slabby granite raps - as it sticks to rock like Velcro.

Like all ropes they’re better when new.

I don't have them but I did have a look at impact forces for various ropes and the protect series was substantially higher (nearly 50% higher impact force than Beal Cobra's for instance)

We gave up on the Starlings, bought for climbing as a 3 in alps but just too tangly, to rap efficiently. Son just got some mammut 8mm protect?? (They hide the aramid? under the sheath, no fluffing) he says no problem tangling with these so far.

The Mammut is a bit better than the starling for impact forces but not great (31% harder than Beal Cobra)
