Sorry for the obscure question but, to what torque should the bolts on black diamond black prophet ice axes be tightened? I'm sure the huge amount of combined knowledge on UKC can help my find the answer!

Edit: I've found out that Quarks are set to 15Nm, any other guesses?

I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer. The correct torque will depend on the grade of steel and it's finish as well as diameter and pitch.

Failing that you could use a chart like this as guidance.

I'd go with the lowest torque that seems appropriate but add a little thread locking adhesive or superglue to make sure it's secure.

Hi Andy

Wow torque settings for pick bolts?

I normally use the tools provided and give them dome wellie by hand. Have not suffered any issues so far. If ur worried about over doing it then maybe put the piece of scaffold down. Sometimes I put the scanner in the vice to assist remove of pick.

The tools supplied should be fine to do it by hand as hopefully youve left your torque rench at home when ur on the hill.

Good luck with if search

Cheers Davey

I have always gone with the theory that if no torque settings are explicitly set out, then just torque to the normal sensible values you would for a fastener of a given size. I normally do it by 'feel'.

But the values would be similar to those posted by Eric. If you don't have a 'feel' for the torque then just use a torque wrench and hit the table values Eric gave you.
