La Sportiva TX4 vs TX5

I own a pair of La Sportiva TX5 GTX boots and even though I went up half a size they are still way too narrow across the widest part of my foot and toes. Can anyone who has tried these and the TX4 shoe (not boot) advise me on the fit of the latter? I've read that they have a roomy forefoot/toebox, which sounds great, but I'm just wondering how they compare to the TX5. If the fit it similar then I'll have to look elsewhere for a grippy approach/hiking shoe with a snug heel but with more room towards the toes. Thanks

I have quite wide feet and can confirm that the (non-GTX at least) TX4 fits like you want.  The non-GTX TX4 shoe fits me perfectly with plenty of room for the toes.

I tried some TX4 GTX boots in thinking they'd fit like the non-GTX shoes and they're much lower volume and tight.

I bought a TX5 GTX boot, sized +1 and they're also much lower volume and too tight across the forefoot.

Exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for, thank you! Did you need to size up in the TX4 non GTX shoe, or did you go for your usual size? I wonder if it's the boot versions that are less roomy, or whether it's the fact that they are Goretex? Maybe a combined effect. Either way I'd probably go for the non Goretex shoe anyway.

Although I can't help you with this one, I have a very similar kind of question in my head about TX2 evo sizing versus what I wear in a TX4-GTX Mid and what if I tried the same size in a tx2 evo, due to the tx2 evo's "low volume toe box"

I think for both of us there's no avoiding going into a shop and trying things on. Which is not as easy these days as it used to be...

I'd had a boot fitting done at Cotswold Outdoor a couple of years ago wearing walking socks and went with that (half a UK size bigger than my "street" size, but then I think my feet have changed shape as I've got older too).

Probably lucky that they fitted perfectly without trying them on though!

Yes, I'm going to have to try a pair on. Don't really like the whole online ordering/returning thing, so I might have to wait until I'm in the Lakes next month to try a pair on. I'll do a bit of Googling to see which shops stock them.

In reply to Blue Yonder:

The variation in this TX range is weird. I'm on my third pair of TX4 shoes. I thought I'd get a pair of TX5 gtx shoes, thinking they would be a similar fit, etc. Very disappointed with the lacing system (TX4 is brilliant); a lot of faff to get a good fit. The tongue is bulky, with unnecessary 'reinforcement' (again the TX4 is just about perfect). Fit seems more snug, so rubs, whereas I've not had a single blister with any of the TX4.

Sorry, I know it's not comparing the boot; just needed to vent...

I'm in my third pair of TX4 shoes and they fit my EU45 wide feet perfectly. Bought some TX5 GTX shoes in 45.5 but returned them because they were much too narrow.

Very different shoes. The TX4 is relatively soft and low profile compared with the TX5.

Did you get the GTX version or regular? The TX4 shoe is sounding promising. So just to clarify, can anyone tell me, does the GTX version of the TX4 shoe have a closer fit than the non GTX?

The TX4 shoe is very good indeed. It fits to size. As hinted as above the TX5 GTX might as well have been made by another firm altogether! I don't much like goretex linings, but got a good price on a goretex Inov8 midi-boot. So far so good, but NOT as good as the TX5 might have been (I suppose some might like the fit - who knows)

I was really disappointed by the TX5 GTX boot. Hoped it would have been a good all-rounder, mainly for hiking but with a bit of extra grip on rocky ridges and scrambly bits. They hurt like hell.

Tx4 shoe and Tx4 gtx shoe are the same last.

I have the TX4 in both normal and GTX versions. I bought the GTX a half euro size bigger (45.5) to use with thicker socks in crap weather when working. The GTX is noticeably longer but still fine on width. I don't think the GTX in the same size would feel appreciably narrower.

Thanks all. I'm going to try both the GTX and non GTX shoes. Hoping to get a good fit his time.

In reply to Blue Yonder:

Just to confirm that La Sportiva sizes are all over the place and that TX4’s are wide. Try them on before buying!
