I want a new jacket for some nordic ski touring in Hardangervidda Norway.
Does the Aspira smock fit the bill? Does paramo material work better in the serious cold than Gore tex?

I thought of geting a Fjallraven / Norrona traditional style smock that you see the odd Norwegian using

but they're water resistant only so useless outside deep winter.

Any ideas?

Thanks

In reply to dannorris: My Paramo kit has performed well in Scottish conditions and when Skiing in the alps. I think that Norway weather is closer to Scottish weather in temperament (ie. cold and dry to cold and wet in short order) although I've only been there in the summer when it was just wet.

Technically the paramo kit is 'only' water resistant (although the fact that it keeps me bone dry in torrential rain seems to have passed the Standards people by)

The venting arrangements on Paramo should help with the heat you will generate nordic skiing. Think carefully about your base layers.

In reply to SteveD: I do like that fjallraven smock though. The last fjallraven jacket I had was very good, well made and wind proof.

Thats actually how I got onto Paramo, I was looking for a top that was windproof rather than a goretex/plastic bag. The fact that Paramo turned out to be waterproof as well was a bonus.

In reply to dannorris: If you are anything like me I boil just doing the skiing in my helly t shirt and that is in -20c , I personally don't have one but my missus swears by them but she doesn't sweat anywhere near what I do .

winter in Norway is cold and dry I have a light weight windproof , a 100 polatec (northface) and a rab summit down jacket and down mits for when you stop to have your butties ............

the locals seem to set fire to anything that will burn when they stop
