In reply to Nick Windell:This is from a previous thread asking about the elios v ecrin roc. - Both Helmets are suitable for rock climbing and mountaineering. The Ecrin rock is more durable in terms of day to day durability and small knocks as it is polycarbonate. The Elios class is plastic with a polypropylene(not polystyrene) liner. Both helmets pass the same tests and are as strong as each other. The poster who said that the Elios is a one impact helmet is correct but so is the Ecrin. All helmets should be replaced after one big impact, just because the damage is not as visible on a traditional cradle type helmet does not mean that it is still able to take more impacts safely. The other consideration is that polycarbonate is alot more UV resistant than plastic and again this means it will be more effective for longer.Polycarbonate is also more expensive - Ecrin - £50, Elios £30. If you are prepared to change your helmet fairly regularly and you want lightweight then go for the Elios(I don't think anything else comes close for the price). If you want durability and are prepared to have a heavier helmet then go for the Ecrin.
