Hi all,

after having a good search around, i couldn't find any straight up comparisons between the 4 generations of Wild Country Ropeman's. Does anyone know of somewhere that can simply show the difference, or just have that knowledge floating around in their head and are willing to explain it?

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

Ropeman 1 - Alloy cam, Flat cam, 10>13MM ropes

Ropeman 2 - Stainless steel cam, teeth instead of flat cam, better bite on smaller ropes, 8>13mm ropes

Ropeman 3 - conspicuous by its absence.

Ropeman 4 - Alloy cam, 8>13mm ropes, compatible with flat and tubular slings 10>15mm slings

Vertical Museum gives a good overview of all the variations.

I've got a Ropeman 2.

I've actually seen a Ropeman 1 cut the sheath on 11mm static line. Admittedly, we were putting a fairly hefty load on it!

Was it one of the recalled versions?

No idea - it wasn't mine. But that recall is to do with the teeth not engaging, which definitely wasn't our issue.

No, the Mk1 Ropeman, with the sort of zig-zag ridges on the cam instead of teeth, was known to do that if it was very heavily loaded.  It even severed the rope completely in some 'drop' tests to shock load it.

Yes it's counterintuitive, but the MK1 with the zigzag dragons back is actually far more damaging to ropes (potentially catastrophically so) than the MK2 with teeth that bit into the ropes sheeth.

Can't remember what was wrong with the MK3, but it wasn't around long before being recalled/discontinued.
