Anyone used it / is it any good ?
Not sure whether to buy one of these or a second hand rab ascent 700 or something similar.
Any advice would be appreciated!

In reply to Kaito: I dont know what you are looking for in a sleeping bag but at the moment you are comparing chalk and cheese

the highlander thing will be over 2Kg of synthetic fill with an overated temperature rating

and a rab Ascent 700 will be realistic and too warm to use until the winter

What are you wanting a sleeping bag for?

In reply to gear boy: Looking for a good all rounder for Scottish winter summer alpine and maybe some Himalayan stuff.
What do you mean by overrated temperature?
Is the Rab ascent 700 not suitable for summer alpine stuff then?

In reply to Kaito: You need two bags ! If you camping in an alpine valley a warm sleeping bag will be hell. A cheap synthetic summer bag will suffice for most occasions and a warm uk 'winter' bag (pref down) will do for the big H and winter camping the UK and higher altitude camping (Valle Blanche etc)

In reply to Kaito:

You need two bags, or possibly three if we keep having warmer winters most of the time. Definately two rather than one though.

In reply to Kaito: scottish winter/summer alpine the rab would be OK for that, some himalayan stuff? again if trekking this would be Ok, but if you are thinking Mera or something then you want more than this,

If you are carrying stuff then try to get the best down bag you can afford as better quality downs means less of it, less weight,

I would generally say you can trust ratings on reputable down bag brands, cheap synthetic is always questionable

Get a liner and use the bag as a quilt down in the valley, this is assuming you are not using huts, and are bivvying/tenting in the alps up high.
