I've been looking for a sleeping bag for a while. Something small and light but warmish and cheap. On paper the Snugpak Softie Kilo Bag looks like the biz. But no one seems to rate Snugpak. Is there a reason for this? Is there something I should know before spending my hard earned cash? Or is it just gear snobberry that stops these bags being more popular with serious types?

In reply to Matty Cross: Snugpak are (in my opinion of course) about the best synthetic bags around. I am still happily using a Softie 15 that I bought in 1993... it's been used and abused, washed countless times and has lost a little of it's insulation, but realisticaly not much. The kilo range are excellent, and if you don't like the colour you can also get them in olive green, called the elite range. The only better bags are down!

I use a Softie3 for summer, have done for years. The only problem is that a lot of people find that they aren't as warm as rated. My summer bag is rated to 0C, but I would be cold if it went below about 10C overnight. Then again, I DO sleep cold generally.

I've had a snugpack softie for about 8 years, and have no complaints about it at all! Very good bag, and reasonable price.

Yeah, so do I! Hence, I bought a Softie 15 and have always used it with a liner, usually something v. warm like silk or fleece... I do have a few 'normal' friends that have used the Softies though, and they seem to think they're about the same as other bags' ratings. I now use mine as a summer bag, cos I'm nesh!!! C-:

I have a Snugpak Softie 9, rated as +5, which I've owned for about 5 years. I've used it year-round in Scotland, and in the Alps (sometimes with a Ajungilak fleece liner) at 3500m in temperatures of -10, and it's been great. Fairly small packed in it's compression bag, and warm for it's weight. Pertex saves weight, but it's also slim fitting so not for anyone overweight!.
