Tent footprint for 3-man tent?

I've bought a new 3-man tent, but it didn't come with a footprint and there doesn't seem to be a specific one available separately.

Does anyone know of a footprint - any make - that's about 2m x 2.2m?

Cotswold used to do some really good grey rubbery groundsheets and I've used those to make a couple in the past, but they no longer seem to do them. I'm happy to cut something to size, but don't want something that's going to crinkle in the night.

Thanks

I used kite fabric for mine, from EBay. Or try Pennine Outdoors for fabric.

I bought one of those orange plastic survival bags and cut it open. Used as a footprint for about 10 years now. Folds very small so easily fits in the tent bag. Most importantly it cost about £6

Pond liner.

Recycled wrapping (the thin micro bubble EPE stuff is good).

In reply to Babika:  same here, never noticed it being noisy.

For our car rent we got sheeting from Mudfords in Sheffield, basically lorry sheeting or what they make hanging banners or if. It's not lightweight but really robust, we just bought it by the metre cut to size at home. You could add eyelets if you wanted, but we found it heavy enough to not need them.

Tyvek is the one. Easy to cut and very cheap /light.

210cm x 210cm here...

Tyvek option also available.

Exactly my solution too.

Agree -tyvek is the business. Get the really light version - lighter than any tent-specific footprint. Easy to make tags to link to the poles at ground level to hold in place ... light and waterproof, and cheap!

You can buy sections of Tyvek from auction site and cut it to size. Very light and effective.

Hi, all - just back from holiday, so thanks all.

Found a couple of listings on auction site for 2.8m wide Tyvek housewrap membrane, which I can buy as a 2m length and looks the best way of getting what I want with no joins.

Any last thoughts before I commit?

If you've still got an old tent, cut the groundsheet out of that.  It may be knackered, but it will be enough as a footprint for the new tent.

Or Tyvek

I have got an old 3-man tent that's falling apart, but the kids seem to like playing/sleeping in it in the garden, so won't let me chop it up just yet.

Here's the listings I'm looking at - 285833257551 and 285833297808, same seller. First one seems a better guarantee of getting it in one piece.

Jumping in here. I have a c.5 year old wild country tent that has just got seriously porous, the waterproofing treatment seems to have deteriorated. Is there a possibly spray on treatment that could restore it that anyone knows of? The description of the groundsheet is: "the tough, waterproof groundsheet is made from a more durable ripstop polyester that is PU coated to give a 6000mm hydrostatic head. "

And presumably, if I have to go that way,  any footproint should be narrower than the outer of the tent to stop water pooling under it, so cutting to size is going to be better than buying an approximately sized rectangle?

In reply to Max 6787:

The obvious one to try would be Fabsil - https://www.fabsil.com/

And yes, the footprint should be slightly smaller than what it's under, so that any moisture runs onto the ground and not, as you say, under the tent.

In reply to Ian_Cognito:

Actually, I might order an extra couple of metres - and re-roof/weatherproof the rabbit hutch before the winter!

OP Ian_Cognito 29 Aug 2024
In reply to Ian_Cognito:

Ok, so have ordered enough to do a tent ground sheet, the rabbit hutch and a bit extra as a groundsheet for the bivvi bag.

Thanks, all.
