Boots making ankle bones sore

Hi folks,

I have a pair of La sprortiva ultra raptor boots, they have been worn around a dozen times now but I am having issues with them making my ankle bones sore, no broken skin or blisters, it seems they are just irritating my bony ankle bones. The left one was doing it initially, but on the last hike that one started to hurt too.

There seems to be a protruding ridge around the ankle area and I am thinking it is this that is causing the issue, put a couple of layers of duct tape over it and it seemed to help for a while, but the ridge is now starting to come through again.

Have tried looser lacing, but then the boot is lifting at the heel.

Has anyone had a similar problem and could offer any advice? or is there any other suggestion of something I could stick over the ridge to minimize the rubbing? I struggle to get boots to fit and these are OK other than this massively annoying problem

Thanks

I find box or gap lacing can help to remove hot spots/rubbing, so would certainly suggest experimenting with lacing style.

I'm tempted to try out the locked double helix now I've come across this site:

Thank you, will take a look

Not experienced exactly this but when my Meindls started rubbing my heel due to a seam I used Engo patches. Basically just duct tape plus, but might last slightly longer. Thick socks too ofc.

I wonder if heel protectors over your socks might help too, or would they make it too tight-? The ones that slip over your feet (can't share photos on here I'm afraid).

In reply to wainright: basically you may as well start looking for something different.  I didn't get on with something else La Spo made for the same reason.

Indeed

The top of the boot is extremely narrow

This may help.  It's easier to show than describe, but I'll have a go.

When tying your laces, reverse the order in which you do the top two hooks; so from the third last pair of hooks go to the very last pair, then down to the second last pair and hook the laces and tie off as normal.  Your boots will be fully laced but the bow will be lower than previously and this reduces the stress and restriction at the top of the boot.

There are a formidable number of different lacing patterns and you can pull up multitudes with a quick search.

I understood, thank you.

Will give that a try, it's a nightmare when the rubbing starts, you either carry on in pain or quit. So frustrating
