The highest of the Inverpolly hills provides a comparatively straightforward round, with an expansive outlook over the watery hinterland of cnoc and lochan to the neighbouring mega-celebrity peaks of Suilven, Stac Pollaidh and Ben Mor Coigach. Cul Mor is a grand chunk of geography in its own right, and while it's possible to combine it with Cul Beag (not as near as it looks, a real leg stretch) most walkers will probably feel they've had full value with the single-hill route described here.

Last September I did the Cul Mor, Cul Beag link up. It's a good 20 odd years since I last did it. I had conveniently forgotten just how much height is sacrificed between the two, and the nature of the terrain underfoot. Approaching Lochan Dearg in Gleann Laoigh I had a wee treat, getting nice and close to a Golden Eagle having a wee snooze on a rock.
