As part of a lakes trip next weekend, I'm planning Portinscale > Buttermere via Cat Bells, High Spy, Dale head and Robinson. I'm looking at going up Dale Head Pillar (Grade-1) (grade 1 route, not MVS route) from Dale Head Tarn as I link the two ridges.
My pretty ancient guidebook covers the route, and I've no concerns about the technical difficulty or the exposure. But the only routes I've done solo before have been obvious in terms of route finding {Striding edge, Jack's Rake etc), and I'm conscious that going off route is when things can go wrong.
So does anyone have any experience of the route, any tips on route finding for it etc?
