Hi all,

Looks like almost all snow has gone in the Highlands from webcams. Is it worth taking crampons on the Ben this weekend? Just going up the tourist track.

Thanks

Flip flops will be grand. Make sure you take a tesco bag with crisps and irn bru too! 😜

Crampons are so light, I will always take them if there is any chance I might need them. So yes I would

Forecast (Met Office) for Ben Nevis on Sat 29th is for snow in the morning with temperatures below freezing all day.

I'd take crampons if I were heading up.

While there is little to no snow on the summits there is snow forecasted for Friday and Saturday on the Ben. Whether that is a thicker covering or a light dusting you won’t really know until you’re there, so probably best packing them anyway, or spikes if you have them instead. Hope you have a nice outing!

Better to take them and not need them than not take them and need them!

You're not "The" London Climber of @ldnclmbr fame are you? If so, surely you have your latest TNF X Gucci coblab approach (to Ceuse or Milan fashion week) shoes, as recently seen on the Oscar red carpet modelled by both Alex Honnold and Jared Leto surely?

Maybe, maybe not. Check the weather and make a decision

Personally, I wouldn't bother but everyone needs to make their own choices on these things.

Went up that way in late February when there was a good covering of softish snow above about 700m. Took crampons but didn't need them, though some folks were wearing them. I'd say with all the old snow gone any fresh stuff wouldn't warrant crampons, but if it turns cold there might be some ice, in which case microspikes would be your best bet.

In reply to girlymonkey:

I take it that flip flops is a joke at the expense of those who are unfamiliar with that ghastly rubbly track.
