Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know the state of the ford at NN 817 709 in Glen Bruar about 5 or 6 km south of Bruar Lodge? I'm looking at the possibility of a long run from Bridge of Tilt up to Bruar Lodge and than back down Glen Bruar, crossing the river at the ford.

Similarly, any info about a path from the bothy at Allt Scheicheachan to Bruar Lodge would be useful.

I've tried to follow the path marked on the os map from Allt Scheicheachan to Bruar lodge without much success. It does look to be there from the aerial photography so perhaps I just missed it in the heather.

Did this on a mtn bike a couple of years ago.

The river crossing was the hardest I have done , looked for easier points up and downstream before deciding I could just do it safely at the point indicated on the map. Always easier with a bike for support.

Plan B would have been  to take the landrover track SSW? , not got scottish maps with me atm,  to regain the old A9 and get back to Blair Atholl by a longer route.

Thanks Mike. I've found an MTB video which does show a fairly sketchy path, but I imagine it's a bit hit-and-miss on the ground.

Thanks Rick, I've wondered about doing an MTB recce. I guess the river crossing wil be weather dependent - maybe I should pray for a dry summer. Your Plan B would be a lot easier, if a bit longer, if it's the track I'm thinking of.

The aerial photos used by bing and Apple Maps are worth a look. Better than the source google use although bing seems to overlay some path details which are a bit distracting.

In reply to Mike-W-99:

Thanks - the bing photos are much better than google earth. You can switch off the overlaid paths by unchecking the 'Details' box in the view selector panel on the right of the screen.
