Some of us have booked a cottage for new years in Snowdonia, and I want to take some of us up some high peaks. Anyone recommend me some easy/non technical walks?
Was thinking the Pyg track up Snowdon or something similar...

Cheers

What do you mean by "beginner" walks? I see from your profile that you are leading VS which means that from a technical point of view you should cope easily on most of the walks in North Wales, including those involving scrambling in good weather.

Where you may become unstuck is on navigation if you haven't had much mountain experience, particularly in bad weather, in which case you need to stick to well defined paths to start with.

You shouild have no problem with the PYG track or Watkin Path (which is my favorite way up). The N Ridge of Tryfan is a great route and although a scramble, well within the capabilities of a VS leader.

Get a walking guide to the area.

In reply to Trangia: Its the conditions I'm most concerned about! Steep ground and novices are not a good mix...

In reply to bencarroll: With the usual disclaimers about conditions, equipment etc, the Rhyd Ddu path is a good compromise between dangerous and boring - it gets reasonably narrow and dramatic, but the actual path is pretty easy. The tea room in Rhyd Ddu is excellent, as well.

The Devil's Kitchen path up the Glyders is good, as are most things you can do in the Carneddau.

i'd second that, park a car at the vaynol arms near llanberris ,get a ride back to ogwen lake and walk up the devils kitchen to y-garn ,taking in foel goch and elidr fawr, pretty good footpath all the way ,could be a problem finding your way down from elidr fawr in bad visibility though so pick a clear day .5-7 hours i guess.as usual be aware of conditions underfoot
treat yerself to a couple of pints and a hot chili con carne (with garlic bread)at the end .priceless.

In reply to bencarroll: A good walk is from Rhyd Ddu car park, follow the Rhyd Ddu path to Snowdon Summit, then go back down the Snowdon Rangers path to Llyn Ffynnon y Gwas (Res), keep on green path on your OS map to SH 575-553, then turn towards old quarry @ SH 578-540, from quarry make your way back to Rhyd Ddu car park. It's a great walk with way markers to lead the way across the area around the quarry. I would say this walk is mod to easy in good/dry weather.
