Hello!

It seems the snows are starting to turn red with all this lovely weather. The snow algae must be enjoying all this sun (though they might not when their snow patches melt out). Just a reminder if you're interested to keep an eye out for pink tinges on any snow patches you see in the next week or so, especially with the coming heat wave. I would love to hear of any you do see (10 points for anything from the North West - 20 for Skye!). We are still planning on putting together a follow up report to share this year and last year's observations and findings with you.

Here's a link to the article from last spring:  https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/in_focus/red_snow_at_height-15837

And a link to the Scottish snow patch monitoring group:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/snowpatchesscotland/?locale=en_GB

It is looking like another possible record year for early melt out...

And here's a photo from Saturday (11th) to wrap up - an unusual red snow formation in one of the gullies off the Creag Meagaidh plateau.

Cheers, Alex
