Standing apart from the hills that surround it, in a pivotal position between the ridges of Glen Shiel and the rugged tangle of Knoydart, Sgurr a' Mhaoraich is a grand viewpoint. Its ascent from Loch Cuaich is made easy courtesy of one of those friendly historic stalker's paths that the area does so well, but while this southern side of the hill is grassy and uneventful, its knobbly summit ridge and tumbling northern flank more than make up for it. For full value, make a ridge walking circuit via the satellite summit of Am Bathaich.
