The Helvellyn range is a spectacular linear outing but also offers two interesting transverse routes that can be combined into a substantial loop. You could begin and end this at Dunmail Raise, Wythburn or Legburthwaite but here it’s shown with a Glenridding start. Sticks Pass is one of Lakeland’s highest, with a wild feel on the top and some interesting industrial heritage on the eastern side. Grisedale is a well-known thoroughfare between Patterdale and Grasmere, though our route dodges the main pass for a short-cut down the gulch of Raise Beck.
