Water - northern Carneddau

I'm at the very early stages of plotting a 2 day outing, likely starting at one of the coastal railway stations (e.g. Llanfairfechan) and wandering, possibly high, possibly low, depending on weather and inclination towards (e.g.) Dolgarrog. It will be fairly leisurely as the point is more the camping rather than the walk...

...and it looks like (unless I detour to one of the lakes) that the only water source I would cross would be the tops of the Afon Ddu or Tafalog around Bwlch y Ddeufaen (approx SH 715715). Looking at the OS Maps *and* Google aerial photos these look like substantial water courses, but the photos could have been taken in winter...I am likely going late summer/early autumn when they are likely to be at their lowest.

Does anyone have any insights as to the likely state of the rivers (streams) and/or other suggestions (more general suggestions for walks/camping spots also welcome)

Thanks!

Perhaps from llanfairfechan walk towards abergwyngregyn, walk up the amazing valley to Aber Falls then up to the hanging valley above. Substantial watercourse and some good spots to pitch as you wander up to the tops?

that would be a good walk but takes me a bit too far West

I used to run around that area regally when we lived on the coast. You shouldn't have any trouble finding something to fill a bottle from either side of the Bwlch. If that fails, either of the fords marked to the north of Tal Y Fan cross water courses of reasonable sizes. I can't imagine them drying out in anything other than a monumental drought.

The land is pretty heavily grazed and busy with people. I would make sure you had a water filter for drinking anything up there.

Great, yes that's likely the start of the second day so very helpful

Noted thanks

I'm having visions of you in a robe and a crown...

Haha, it might have been regularly, but certainly not regally!
