Yat Rock and the famous horseshoe loop of the River Wye around Huntsham Hill is a landmark of the Wye Valley, a sight you’ll often find on the cover of tourist brochures and even on TV. Yat Rock itself is 500ft high and the ideal spot for watching the Peregrine Falcons as they swoop in and out of their nests in the limestone. Beginning at Yat Rock car park, this walk heads off down to the hamlet of Symonds Yat East with the red chalet where Netflix’s Sex Education was filmed and the award-winning Saracen’s Head Inn on the riverside. A peaceful stretch along the Peregrine Path beside the River Wye takes you to the Biblins Bridge, an Indiana Jones style suspension bridge. Then a long hill climb up through the woods to see King Arthur’s Cave where archaeological discoveries include the remains of a sabre-toothed tiger, and on to the Little Doward's Iron Age hill fort.

8.14 miles, 13.10 km, 570m ascent, 4 – 6 hours. Coleford
