If you're heading into the Dales for Xmas be prepared for some soggy walking. The hills are very wet and any more water won't be soaking away very quickly. It's wintery on the tops with the sleet and hail being blown by strong winds.
It'll be easier to walk on the limestone areas (Malham, Ingleborough etc), which drain faster than the peat covered areas associated with grit stone.
