Good idea or bad?

I'm facing surgery for persistent shoudler bursitis. I've had two steroid injections into the bursa and lots of physio, but it doesn't want to go away.
Before I decide to go back to the surgeon, can anyone with experience of this Op please tell me

Is the Op traumatic?
what is the rehab like - are you out for a long time?
how good the recovery was?

Thanks

In reply to Max 6787: I had this op last year (as well as a rotor cuff repair). I was climbing to some degree within 3 months, you have to keep up with the physio and i was suprised how dibilitating the surgery is (you really cant move your sholder for several weeks), but all in all i have been very happy with the results. I had problems for years, lots of pain and limited movement, now i am pain free and have a fully articulted shoulder like most other people. The surgeon was very good and post op care from the physio's was too, the surgeon said there are 2 catagories of people who have this done, 1 being "pain free is enough" and the other wanting a full range of movement and this shows in how much effort they put into physio and rehab. If you want to know any specifics let me know but for me it was a very positive proceedure.

Thanks for the replies both of you.

I'm very concious that asking for medical advise on a forum isn't much cop, particularly where it comes to 'diagnose me' type posts.

In this case, I know what the diagnosis is and have already briefly discussed surgery as the next step. That was Feb 09, but to go back and discuss it again will cost me £200 excess on my work health insurance policy, so I want to be pretty sure that the surgery is something I am prepared to consider before i go back!

I remember he said the outcome of surgery was generally good, but not sure how long out of the game to expect, and would be interested to hear whether anyone has encountered serious complications.

bit of chronology wierdness there. Would be still be good to hear some (hopefully good) news stories about this kind of op.
