anyone entering the above fellrace ? I`ve tried to get an application form from the LDWA, but without any luck..
 Bob 08 Feb 2006
In reply to lummox:

When is it? It doesn't appear on the LDWA website for upcoming events so I assume that it is at least the end of February. The LDWA have changed their website so that you have to be a member to view events. It's also not on our club fixture list for the next couple of months but that may just be that no-one from our club does it...

In reply to Bob: ta for that info Bob. Think it`s on the first weekend of April- they were handing out forms after the Rombald`s Stride, but I didn`t pick one up...
 Bob 08 Feb 2006
In reply to lummox:

How did you do in Rombalds? I did 3hr 39mins but don't know my placing yet. Hit the wall around Menston and lost about 15mins on the section from there.

In reply to Bob: good time ! Err, I did a lot worse than that ! My only defence is that I`ve not been able to shake off a chest infection since New Year ! Hoping for some better runs in the coming months.. I can`t remember if the Rombald`s results come up on John Schofield`s site ?

p.s. that wallet came in very handy, mine was just about to die..

In reply to lummox:

Got a new wallet for christmas so not politic to use the Rombalds one!

See the reply to your request on FRA forums, sounds like the standard entry form is OK.

Yup -I`m still coughing now ! The Blubberhouses sounds good cos that`s one of our training runs, so we shouldn`t get too lost !

In reply to lummox:

Just noticed that the Grindleford Gallop is on the 11 March. Will have to see if we are fit enough to enter that this year
 Bob 08 Feb 2006
In reply to lummox:

Do you have a description of the route - major junctions and checkpoints etc?

OP lummox 08 Feb 2006
In reply to Bob: afraid not - apart from the description on the FRA site ?

It wasn`t a real fellrace, but v. pleasant going round the grounds of Chatsworth etc. Plus, they seemd to have some good scran in the pavillion afterwards- enjoy !

 Bob 08 Feb 2006
In reply to lummox:

Yeah, that gives an idea but since you say it is one of your training runs I thought you might be able to fill in some of the blanks on the map as it were.

"Fewston, Timble, Beamsley Moor, Bolton Abbey, Rocking Hall Moor, Thruscross Reservoir & The Washburn Valley" may be OK for a Lancaster bomber but us waddlers need a bit more!

In reply to lummox:

I think it's the distance we would be more interested in - 21 miles over easy ground would be a good outing for us so early in the season.
OP lummox 08 Feb 2006
In reply to Bob: sorry Bob- I would imagine it would go up from Fewston on a BW to Timble- then across the road (that leads from Otley to Bhouses) BW again past farm and plantation,NWish good running path to the top of Beamsley Beacon- then good path down to the Abbey- not sure if they will go up the Valley of Desolation to get on to Rocking Stone Moor ? V good paths and BW leads back down to the Washburn- no OS maps in front of me, but the above would seem logical ?
 Bob 08 Feb 2006
In reply to lummox:

Valley of Desolation after 15 miles - nice!

I'll have a look on my maps tonight.

OP lummox 08 Feb 2006
In reply to dinkypen: yup -probably a good idea- I did it after 6 weeks out with shinsplints last year- hard work , but not diabolical..
OP lummox 08 Feb 2006
In reply to satori: good work guv- thank the heavens for google and radio types..
 Bob 08 Feb 2006
In reply to satori:

Cheers. OK Ginger! We're going in!!
