Would be interested to hear others thoughts (and links if avaiable) to uplifting entrance and exit music for a wedding.

currently we're thinking of going with Jesu, Joy of Man's Arising as entrance music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwWL8Y-qsJg; v nice guitar version here too by the way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEemo9i-sCI&feature=related )

and Mendelsshon's wedding march as exit music (don't think I need to link that one!)..

So ... probably 'classical' ... but any suggestions appreciated

Cheers
Mark

I had "Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla" for our entrance, we used an instrumental version, can email it to you if you wish. (http://open.spotify.com/track/6eTGxxQxiTFE6LfZHC33Wm if you use spotify)

For the exit we used the end credits of star wars (better than you would think)

In reply to MarkM:

HOw about Patsy Cline's "I Cried All The Way to the Altar" or the traditional American folk song "I Never Will Marry" (Kristin Hersh does a good version)

Hank Williams' "First Year Blues" for exiting (or, even better, his "Alone and Forsaken")

 Scarab9 12 Apr 2010
In reply to MarkM:

Use "Pete Gun" as intro music, and a funeral dirge as the exit :-p

Or go with "Girls Girls Girls" by the Crue
 Rubbishy 12 Apr 2010
In reply to MarkM:

How about Eye of the Tiger and then to exit the theme tune to the Flumps

or Rhubarb and Custard
 Blue Straggler 12 Apr 2010
In reply to MarkM:

Joking aside...my sis used Morecambe and Wise's "Bring me Sunshine" for exiting! It was ace.
In reply to MarkM: The usual prodigy suggestion?
 NickD 12 Apr 2010
Yakkety Sax for both.

(aka the Benny Hill theme).
 owlart 12 Apr 2010
In reply to Blue Straggler: Did they do the skipping routine down the aisle too?
In reply to MarkM:
I have a friend who exited to simons and garfunkles Mrs Robinson, but thats because she had just become a mrs robinson.

I've always like the instrumental vertion of kissing you, which is used in baz lurmans Romeo and Juilet, I've also recently found and like Ballade pour adeline

Quality suggestion of the Imperial March from the Grump.

However, I think you should go for a whole music dance ensemble, a bit like this....

they'd have to enter/exit while dancing in the mad styles from the vid!

Benny Hill - same idea, they'd have to run around like mentalists doing some slapstick comedy
 Blue Straggler 12 Apr 2010
In reply to John Rushby and Scarab9:

Peter Gunn and Rhubarb and Custard would work well
Paul035 12 Apr 2010
And then at the evening reception you and your mates could entertain the guests with a bit of this...

Yeah, Don't do this or you'll look like a self indulgent, narcisistic tw*t. Much like the people in this video

In reply to MarkM: friend of mine recently exited to 'Concerning Hobbits' worked really well and was a nice happy tune!

A friend of mine recently walked down the isle to the Imperial Death March from Star Wars. It was hillarious and even made the bride laugh.

Maybe not for everyone though!

Exit Music (For a Film) by Radiohead would be quite moving for your exit music.

A mate of mine did the same.. its quite good for the occasion...

entrance: theme from Jaws, segueing into charge of the light brigade or william tell overture. Really
exit: glenn miller. ['in the mood'?]

In reply to MarkM: My Aunt is a big fan of the kid's TV programme Bod, so as it was my brother playing for her wedding, he threatened to play the Bodd theme tune as she walked down the aisle ("there goes Marie, and here comes... Bodd!"). As it was, he played an improvisation on the Bodd theme at the signing of the register, which everybody thought was very nice, and only a few of us picked up it was the Bodd tune in the background

In reply to MarkM: It is a blooming nightmare choosing music since it says so much about you both. We choose some classical piece (I can't remember - but neither can anyone else) to mark the occasion as a bit formal, but we walked out to Morecambe and Wise's Give me Sunshine. Very jolly and put a smile on everyone's face which is what you want I guess?

The very best of luck!

In reply to MarkM:

My brother is a professional organist. He would have been my best man, but I ended up having two, as my brother was stuck in the orga loft playing the organ during the service! Our wedding was in Dunkeld cathedral where my wife and I have played alot of folk music over the years. My brother composed an intro processional on a theme by the late local piper Gordon Duncan - it made quite an impact! Our outro processional was the St Anne prelude and fugue by Bach, which in my view is second to none!

Some friends had a cellist friend play an arrangement of Ennio Morricone's "On Earth as it is in Heaven" (aka "that music off that film, wotsit, The Mission lol"

It was stirring stuff.

 Scarab9 12 Apr 2010
In reply to MarkM:

in the extremely way off not on the agenda in the forseeable future way...

...me n The Lass would have a hard time picking music considering anything meaningful for both of us - we have a variety tastes but anything we have a shared love for is going to be some sort of metal/rock/punk! Now if we can find a non depressing appropriately toned Pearl Jam song...I'm not even gonna bother with Pantera....Don't fear the Reaper? hmmm no....

Tim Chappell 12 Apr 2010
The first movement of BWV 202 is the finest wedding music I know. You need to like classical soprano to enjoy it, mind.

gotta be Bomber, mate!
Ain't a hope in hell, nothing's gonna bring us down / the way we fly , five miles off the ground.
straight up! you could even cut in the bomber noise at the start..should make everyone sit up and pay attention.

it's what i'd have at my wedding [which is probably why i'm not married.....;-(]

In reply to MarkM:

The other very traditional one is Vidor's Tocatta (which, I'm told, is what my parents had). You'll have to look for it yourself as I can't get youtube at work (which is also why I don't know if someone has already suggested it).

Thanks
yes music choice is very personal... the whole weekend will be very music-oriented with various musicians, bands, choir and djs going their bit..
Have been so caught up in the rest of that up til now that I'd almost forgotten about the entrance and exit music!

Exit: Bat out of Hell

OK so we planned our wedding in four weeks and picked our music while pi$$ed...both worked though.

In reply to MarkM: I entered to Cavalleria rusticana - Intermezzo. Didn't start the walk in until 1:35 - you'll see why when you hear it. Beautiful piece - from an opera featuring a wedding. Still makes me well-up...

In reply to MarkM: I went to a wedding(civil service) once where Suspicious minds was playing as wedding party filtered in !!! I was pissing myself. I also had the misfortune of enduring my mates sister singing (solo) you amaze me to him and his wife during their service. I am still cringing now.

Actually I lie, waiting music was Theme from Twin Peaks. Entrance Music was An Ending - Brian Eno.
