Having got some significant experience of drinking, with over 15 seasons in drinking holes of Huddersfield, I awoke to contemplate yet another Sunday morning hangover.

It got me thinking. I heard that the uncoordinated aspect of a hangover, commonly reffered to as its "dropping" phase (because you're too feeble hold anything on account the boooze you tried to pickle yourself in last night) was caused by missing electrolytes. Am I right in thinking your electrolytes are mainly potassium and sodium chloride? If so, should I now now be eating bannas dipped in salt?

Pass the fricking Neurofen...

In reply to Burns: If this is so then an electrolyte sports powder drink should work.

In reply to Burns: But hangovers are mainly due to de-hydration, and lack of sugars/glucose. So just have a nice sweet breakfast and drink lots of water.

Have you tried it? I thought I was going to have a stroke this morning.

simple answer dude, don't drink as much, and get out climbing more

<ducks for cover>

yours,

a smug bastard who stopped being able to manage hangovers a few years ago so took the only course of action that is guaranteed to reduce hangovers... not drinking as much.

In reply to Burns: I allus drink as much water as I can stomach before goin to bed and leave a pint glass very near so when I wake up with a gob like an arab's slipper I can have another good gulp. Like the previous poster said...It's mostly due to de-hydration

In reply to Burns: Also a good chug of water before you sleep is a good idea, re-hydrate yourself before you feel like death.

You may find this link to advice from a Russian on how to neck more than a bottle of vodka without killing yourself. Interesting and informative, although I think it a little counter productive.

In reply to Burns:

I have been telling anybody who will listen that the 3rd best hangover cure is Dioralyte. This is an elcetrolyte replacement drink commonly given to children for the replacement of salts etc after they have the 5h1ts (sorry cant spell diariah!)

I can have a big night and if I drink a 3 or 4 sachets of Dioralyte it makes a huge difference. It will not cure the hangover but it sure helps.

John

Oh, the 2nd best is a saline drip and the first is a blood transfusion, on good authority from the medical profession who have been out on a bender then have to be in work!
OP Burns 10 Dec 2006
In reply to JWB:

Ah! At last! Salvation has a commercial name. Dioralyte it is then.

No, I don't think so. It was just a bad attempt at some cheap humor, not intended as an insult. I shall birch myself in apology at once.

In reply to Burns: Smoke weed, a lot of fun, plus no hangover compared to booze.
