I have recorded some preparation for French speaking exams for my students in .mp3 format (using Audacity). However, I cannot send them, as the file size exceeds 10mb ... they're about 11-12mb. Is there anything I can do to compress them, as I really don't want to go back to re-record them.
The best thing to do is to save them initially as a wav file, uncompressed, and then export as an .mp3 using a lower bit-rate eg. 96Kb instead of 128Kb
Just make sure you change the filename if you try exporting at a lower quality, so you can go back to the original if you need to...

I use 64kbps mono all the time for logging speech and it's more than adequate. Remember 128kbps stereo is effectively 64kbps per channel for an interlaced file.

You can comfortably go down to 32kbps for mono voice. Well I do anyway.
In reply to judith_sw: When you say 'send'i assume you eman email. if so you could always just get a Gmail account where the attachment limit is 25mb. migh be abit faster than esampling all the files.
