Just received an email claiming to be from Barclays, informing me that there have been scam emails claiming to be from Barclays which were used to steal details from customers. It then asked me to log onto a site and update my details, otherwise my account would be temporarily closed.

These are the urls given in the email: https:// update.barclays.co.uk/olb/p/LoginMember.do
<http: //jgreenhill.com/sys-backup/ibank.barclays.co.uk/olb/p/LoginMember.do/>

So is this a scam pretending to be the opposite or could this be a genuine email?

In reply to violentViolet:

Scam. Any e-mail containing links for you to log in is a scam.

Forward it to Barclays.
In reply to violentViolet:
Yes any e-mail asking you to do those kinds of things are scams, the URL they get you to click seems genuine but it infact redirects you to their site which is identical to a barclays one and they steal your details, it is also common to recieve a similar e-mail for ebay.

In reply to violentViolet: Almost certainly a scam, as actual email address is the green hill one. If worried, log into your barclays account via the standard barclays website- if anything like the banks i bank with, any genuine problems should be flagged up then, or you could send them a message via their standard website.

In reply to ceri:

Also, the green hill URL starts "http://" and not "https://", so it is a non-secure site.

Tis a scam violet, no bank will ask you to update details through an email, they would call or inform you by post. the update. at the start of the address is a give away too if it was barclays site it would be... www.barclays.co.uk/update....

There are so many of these nowadays that every uk bank will not ask for updates through email, if you use that rule of thumb then your fine!

: )

NO bank will email you for details of your finances, if I see an email from one it gets deleted before opening.

Sounds like you have your preview section activated in your OE mailbox. Turn it off by going to;
view, layout, then untick the preview box so that trojans cannot get through so easily.

Any email you get is like a letter, you can dump it if you have no idea who it is from. If you get one from say ;sutty, re conversation; and it may be genuine do not open it till you have checked its properties to see where it has come from. Often it will be some strange email address in another country and can be sent to blocked sender list.

Definitely scam, I got the same thing. They're getting very clever, the 'from' address was spoofed to look like it came from barclays.co.uk domain, and they had my (old) house address included in it which is VERY worrying. Looks like they've bought a list of addresses and email addresses from someone.

Always log on as usual to your online account, not from a link in an email.
