Anyone watching the sahara desert race? Got to be absolutly barking mad to even contemplate that.

I know all about the idea of challenging yourself but that is just too extreme
 LMB 19 Aug 2006
In reply to Tonyfryer: crazy isnt it?
OP Tonyfryer 19 Aug 2006
In reply to LMB:

I do have a weird admiration for trying it although I think they mustt be mentally unhinged

Makes the London marathon seem like a walk to the shops.
 The Lemming 19 Aug 2006
In reply to Tonyfryer:

Can't find my digi box remote controle

Crying as I type this
 wushu 19 Aug 2006
In reply to The Lemming: It should be repeated before next weeks episode hopefully!

I so want to try that bungee jump!

In reply to Tonyfryer: what channel is it?
 tattoo2005 19 Aug 2006
In reply to Tonyfryer: Oh bugger, what channel is it on?
OP Tonyfryer 19 Aug 2006
In reply to happy_c: Finished at 10 unfortunatly

Was on ITV2
 happy_c 19 Aug 2006
In reply to Tonyfryer: what was he doing?
fiend$ish 20 Aug 2006
In reply to Tonyfryer:

This annoyed me so much! As a runner this is something I aspire to do one day (when I have the spare grand entry fee just knocking about doing nothing) and they didn't even mention the name of the race until they had started doing it. They didn't mention it's a marathon every day for 6 solid days, or even just_how_hard ultra marathons are!

Grr. Sorry, rant over.
 climber1993 20 Aug 2006
In reply to fiend$ish: he did el capitan on it once didnt he
fiend$ish 20 Aug 2006
In reply to climber1993:

Yeah - this is what annoyed me. He dedicated so much to El Capitan but clearly spent too much time living it up in LA to do any training. He hadn't even done a marathon prior to running the Des Sable.
SI A 20 Aug 2006
In reply to Tonyfryer:

so did he do it?
fiend$ish 20 Aug 2006
In reply to SI A:

Climb El Capitan? Yup - a day longer than he wanted, but he did it.
SI A 20 Aug 2006
In reply to fiend$ish:

no i know he got up el cap.

did he do the desert race thing.
fiend$ish 20 Aug 2006
In reply to SI A:

Ah, no. He dropped out after 1.5 days - didn't do enough training. He could only run for two hours. His mates though, Bean and Mike - were incredible!!
 u1jd 20 Aug 2006
In reply to fiend$ish: What makes me really sick is the fact that because mummy and daddy are so rich he can afford to do all this great stuff but not care when he bu**ers it all up, however its good to see he has turned his life around instead of sitting on his fat A*se all the time
OP Tonyfryer 20 Aug 2006
In reply to The Lemming: Its repeated tonight at 10pm on ITV2 for anyone that missed it.

Wingman@work 21 Aug 2006
In reply to fiend$ish:

well when you have stopped ranting........

It can't really be compared to the London marathon. (and before you all say of course.......) it's not like running 6 marathons in a row as you run them much more slowly (almost walk at times). I have several friends who run these ultra marathons reasonably regularly (one has just got back from the atacama desert doing one) so this is from the horses mouth.

fiend&ish - have you run a marathon?:!

Wingman@work 21 Aug 2006
In reply to fiend$ish:

that would be Bean Sopwith and Mike Weeks, they are quite well known climbers......... lol
 Wibble Wibble 21 Aug 2006
In reply to Wingman@work:

Bean Sopwith, now there's a brilliant name if ever there was one.
Gorrilla 21 Aug 2006
In reply to SI A:

In reply to Gorilla: Never realised Monkeys have green eyes...
Ed Stevens 21 Aug 2006
In reply to Tonyfryer:

Didn't see this! when is the repeat? [if l've not missed it!]

Why don't the guy advertise SlimFast? He used to be a fatarse, how can he be doing all this? {must be daddys money!]
 beardy mike 21 Aug 2006
In reply to Ed Stevens: Or maybe he goes along and gets paid by the film company for doing it and thinks that it might be a good idea to lose a pound or two along the way...
 cidersoak 21 Aug 2006
In reply to Wibble Wibble: sopwith camel fame..
Ed Stevens 21 Aug 2006
In reply to mike kann:

And I am digging in shit for a living? Bloody celebrities >
 beardy mike 21 Aug 2006
In reply to cidersoak: Is that how she managed to run in the sahara then?
 jfw 21 Aug 2006
In reply to mike kann:

she works super hard at what she does, and is super fit coming in the top 50 ladies of the marathon du sables (i read some where) - but her family being super rich on the basis of sopwith camel design (her grandad) - helps with the lifestyle of travelling round the world, climbing, sky diving and training for stuff like this
 beardy mike 21 Aug 2006
In reply to jfw: I just thought an extra hump on her back might help the hydration situation
 Adam Lincoln 21 Aug 2006
In reply to Gorilla:

You didnt see it then? Obviously.
fiend$ish 21 Aug 2006
In reply to Wingman@work:

Hee hee! Of course I know that, silly. And yes, I have entered the Snowdon Marathon in October, oh and the FLM in April.
