McDonalds - having a laugh?

The fat US thread somehow got me looking at the McDonalds site and was amazed when I saw this!

http://www.mcdonalds.co.uk/pages/eatsmart/sandwiches.html

Big Mac

"Two pure beef patties with an unbeatable sauce, lettuce, onions, pickle, cheese and sesame seed bun."

Pure beef? Pure beef???? How on earth have they managed to make "pure beef" taste like that? Have you actually eaten a McDonalds hamburger by itself? No sauce, salad or bun. Just the burger. It tastes like a cross between cardboard and a rubber seal on a 20 year old vacume cleaner.

How can they claim 100% pure beef? They have got to be having a laugh surely?

"Pure beef" can include that which is sprayed off factory-farmed bones with a high pressure hose, I'd assume...

Do you really think there average patrons have any taste? They probably complain if given a nice Steak on the grounds that it tasted a bit...... meaty?
 Philip 25 Aug 2005
The difference between a 100% beef and a burger from the local butcher is quite distinct. In fact I know people who use minced fillet steak to make burgers and they still don't tast great. For the best burgers you need good flavoured meat with plenty of seasoning and fat.

Well they say it isn't but on that basis, my local kebab shop sells "pure lamb" and I tell you it tastes a damn sight better than a Macy D's burger!

not people who eat there sober, but after 20 fags and 10 pints it tastes wonderful... just wish the aftertaste was nicer the next morning
Stormmagnet 25 Aug 2005
In reply to Richard: I do wonder about the claim. It is clearly not just ground up steak. Is BEEF an acronym for something.

How true this is. Our little canteen at work does really nice hot bacon and/or sausage and/or egg rolls in the morning, if grease is your thing - proper good countryside farm sausages too. All my colleagues (who do enjoy their grease) would prefer to go to the McD drive through. Some of them actually dislke the filter coffee from our snazzy Kenwood jobby, they can only drink instant

 Anni 25 Aug 2005
In reply to Jon Dittman:

ANY part of a cow is classed as pure beef. Hence they can actually say that.

What is interesting is a friend of mine at uni's family had a beef farm. Mcdonalds were their main buyer, only buying the prime cuts of beef (no offal) from them. We could only assume this was used for the board of directors...

I used to be really anti Mc donalds and all that , anti fast food stuff, now I have relented. I just figure no one gives them up, they have loads of customers ,and if you cant beat them join em.

No one has stopped eating there, and they have exploded all over the world, they are unstoppable, and no one does anything to change.

I had a quarter pounder yesterday and to be honest it tasted quite good

Sounds like the restaurant that started serving free-range, corn fed chicken. A significant number of diners sent it back, saying it "tasted funny" - because being used to supermarket chicken they didn't know what chicken actually tastes like!

I had two Big Macs the other day - they're doing a "buy one get one free" promotion at the moment. I too get an occasional craving for bullock anus.

I have friends who wont set foot in McD's claiming disgust for large global companies, low staff wages and general snobbery. They don't mind shopping in Tesco though! Strange.

The bum holes are very low fat and a little tasteless. The pink rim around them is a bit jucier. Eyelids are a bit chewy but still have a nice beef flavour.

maccy d's is fine when drunk or hungover, and yes it tastes quite nice at the time but the aftertaste is foul... got nothing to do with being holier than thou! :O)

I know, at least we can go anywhere in the world and know what our favorite food will be and where we can get it.

I rememeber running off the telephrequi(spelling ) in Cham. straight to Mac's. The thought kept me going for 2 days.

Before Mac opened in Cham. you only had the Jap burger bar next to the bar nash. I was so deprived in those days.

That grease is better than sex. !!

Then logically the old "eat shit, a million flies can't be wrong" bumper stickers must apply.

Just because you can't beat them, doesn't mean you have join them.

I was disappointed with Supersize me. The really interesting stuff, like his liver and blood results, were glossed over rapidly for the sake of cutting to a doctor going "Oooh, that's bad" without actually saying what the results were.
A bit too Michael Moore for me.
Stormmagnet 26 Aug 2005
In reply to Mr Rain: I thought McDonald's were having real problems. Supersize Me was very damaging, but Subway have done the real damage taking a lot of business.
