Any one know of a utility or method of converting memory maps to jpg image file.
Once I have an image file then I will be able to view the map on the 2.5" screen of my camera.

I realise i can do a "print screen" then save in photoshop then stitch images together, but thats long winded.

Im looking for a .QCT-.JPG Converter..

In reply to mikehike: In short I don't think you can. I've just looked at my Memory Map and can't find any way of doing it.

Can you not transfer them to a GPS or PDA?

the only way i can think of, which is also quite long winded and requires acrobat pro is to print the map to pdf and then extract the pdf image as a jpg.

In reply to mikehike: There is a program called 'Irfan View' which I think (could be wrong) accepts most image formats and converts them to jpg, worth checking.

Not OS maps I think, copyright doesn't allow.

Google "Zan Image Printer". I think you install it 'as a printer' and then when you do File, Print it should appear in your list of available printers so it looks like it will do the job you want. AND you can get a free trial download.
HOWEVER I have never used it so I don't know whether it is actually what you're after. Looks like it though.

In reply to TN: think Microshite image writer print driver works the same way

In reply to marty marty:

I looked at that first off but I think that only generates a MS formatted file of some type, this other thing gives you a .jpg option.

You can save some 1:25k as images within MM, but not 1:50k

Dunno why?

In reply to mikehike:
try this
mark a ruff route on the screen map and then you do something like print route card which includes a jpg of the map area your route is, that might help

There's a number of PDF writers out there that work on a similar principle. Most of the free ones use the Ghostscript GPL postscript writer as the basis. I use PDF995 as it allows free commercial use but from memory there are better 'free for non-commercial' usage ones out there. Have a look on Download.com or similar.

No pressure, but I have just e-mailed this link to Humphrey Jungle as he 'works' in I.T.

Lets see how good he is, I have every faith !

(by the way HJ, HOW IS that rounding problem getting on?

Switch macro on and take a picture of it. Voila.

I'm impressed !

So what about my work problem ?
Or have you ticked the 'too hard box' ?
In reply to mikehike:

Is the .QCT format MM's internal storage format for mapping data, or some output format that it produces?

I don't have MM, so I can't look for you.

I've played with JPEG images quite a bit, so I might be able to spot any wrapper code they've put on.

QCT sounds like it might be 'quantised cosine transform', which might be another name for Discrete Cosine Transform used in JPEGs. Aha, good guess; not right, but along the right lines...

In reply to TN: ok thank you all for the input.
I had given up on trying so i did it the print screen photoshop way, only to find the camera limits the size of image it can view.
Meaning many .jpg's of small map coverage, which on a multiday trip is very useless.
However its good for say text documents or instructions.

You could put the camera operating instructions on the camera.
In reply to TN:

Thanks, but no; they think it's an audio format...

And they have no converters.

I've found an old MM demo disk that had some .qct files on it. Ugh. It's not JPEG, or anything like JPEG. Definitely a prorietary format, deliberately chosen for non-compatibility of mapping data... (well, I suspect; the alternative is that it's more compact than JPEG).
