Just looking at what's available on t'interweb. They look pretty fun. Just a few questions; will messing around on one help me to learn how to snowboard quicker? (I can surf ok already.....if that's relavent) How much should i pay for one? - looks like 100-130quid new should do it, any second hand options? anyone recommend a good first model to get? - I'm 5'10" & weigh 12.5 stone.

looks really good fun for when it's too wet to climb.
Thanks,
steve
In reply to Steve Ramsden:

The motion to turn a mtn board looks exactly like a skateboard, whereas snowboarding is like sliding a (controllable) tea tray under your body weight (I've been doing it for 12+ years).
You can control a snowboard very well, but I've got serious doubts as to whether anyone is truly in control of a mtn board (from watching tv coverage recently). I like board sports but mtn boarding looks.... crap sorry.

http://www.mbs.com/rideCenter/Videos.asp .... check out the MBS site videos.

I did find it hard compared to snowboarding though ....but I'm pretty pish at that.

And, in my experience, not for a rainy day Steve.

In reply to Steve Ramsden: If the angle of the slope is right and the conditions are OK, you can "carve" a mountain board very similar to a snowboard. However, I found that if the tyres aren't particularly grippy on the surface it can "wash out" in the middle of the turn and you can crash to the ground VERY painfully. If you wer going to do it purely to improve your snowboarding I wouldn't bother, but OK if you are looking for a bit of fun. I would go to a centre and try it out first, before buying.

Any board sports have a certain overlap skate/surf/snow/mountain as the balance is similar. Indo boards are quite good for improving balance for boards.

http://www.magicmotionuk.com/ see "surf wheely scooter" looks a lot more fun though.

In reply to Steve Ramsden: if u look around, perhaps in the back of a mountain boarding mag, there is a "no snow" or similarly named board designed to simulate a snow board. my friend got into mountain boarding and became pretty good then decided to have a go at snowboarding. he seemed to pick it up pretty fast. i have had a go on his board and noticed the following - it feels fast even when its not, you will fall off alot thus get some gloves at the least. he now has helmet and pads too. and ride it on smooth grass, not a steep road.

have fun!

In reply to butch: Get as much protective gear as you can, especially writst guards! Golf courses seem to be pretty good places to learn, but it doesn't endear you to grounskeepers.
